Not until you mentioned it. Good eye.

 

This car started with a '26 Hemi, but Al told me he had "issues" with it, and changed to a punched out '92 and had a little better success. The photo that 62pacecar posted was when it had the early Hemi and the roof hoop chopped off. The next year he went with the '66 Dart flopper.

To me, this is where "Funny Cars" went too far, I was glad NHRA reigned them in. Those were just Fuel Altereds with chopped up late model bodies.

 

Thanks for that picture, I watched Bill Ireland race from '61 into the 70's, and have movies of the T-Bolt. In 1962, Bill had a 406 Galaxy, one of the first races of the season at McMinnville, Or, he won S/S, Stock Eliminator, Street Eliminator, Jr. Eliminator, and they had a 1/4 mile foot race, and he won it too ! He was a Fireman and stayed very fit. I only met him once.

Fuel altered of the era were not that long of a wheelbase, which is what made them fun.

 

In '64 he had a T-Bolt and a Cobra, provided by Oregon Ford Dealers.
