I just picked up a Mallory 4 cylinder distributor. It is marked Model Y3, Type 11A, S/N 39FMX3. Any info on this would be greately appreciated.
Is it big with two-piece cap or small with modern cap? Basic mech advance number will be stamped on top of advance mech. This is of course a Model A-B unit with the "11" number.
It is the normal size with a one piece cap. The cap has the name M. Mallory in script. Can you still get parts for these? What are they worth? I picked this up with a bunch of other parts.
I think the big source for old Mallory stuff is Century Performance, which has a large selection of Mallory info online. Anything Mallory except 1950's-'60's two piece cap can be very confusing...I believe there are at least 3 different one-piece cap Model A Mallorys... The two-piece Model A one was first released in 1929, and had maybe 4 different generations of variants, iron and later aluminum, some earlies with vac brakes AND manual adjustment to static advance...
Did you ever figure out any specifics on this Y3 11A? I just acquired one and am in your spot 16yrs ago.
here is a link to my mallory part number thread, the number 11 is for a model A or model B ford https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/mallory-distributor-part-number-list.1088268/
