The CarpetBagger Nomad has continuously Drag Raced from at least 1967 when I saw it for the first time racing at Lebanon Valley Dragway. That is 56+ year of drag racing. It has been all over the East coast tracks. Saw a video a couple days ago and it is still in the game. Has newer paint mostly yellow gold now.

    Hello,

The original restaurant opened in 1946 along Highway 101 (now Camino Capistrano) about a quarter-mile southeast of the Mission. It was an 18-seat diner with a gas station that provided a convenient and popular stop for travelers passing through on their trip between San Diego and Los Angeles.

The restaurant flourished and, in 1960, moved to a larger location next to the Mission (shown in the accompanying photo).

Today only a fond memory, the restaurant closed in 2005 and the building has since been demolished.

Any time folks got off of the highway or then later freeway at the Ortega highway exit, it was the direct route to downtown San Juan Capistrano and it led right to the Mission San Juan Capistrano.

There was both a restaurant and a gas station, with the wives running the 18-seat diner and the men pumping gas. Later, it seems the Newhart family became the sole owners.

These days, when one gets off of the Southbound I-5 freeway at the listed Highway 74, the road leads to the latest In/Out place, just finishing up to open soon. But, the Mission San Juan Capistrano is still there as a part of California History, along with the earliest elementary schools (1850) in the whole OC area. YRMV
