Saw your car at a cruise night in Edmonton this year. It was my favourite there. Such a cool car.

found this one of my roadster on Coker tire website. It said what every Coker tire employee likes to see, Coker tires going up in smoke.

I received a very large envelope the other day. Return address but no name and no note inside. But I pulled out this calendar and going through it found this. This isn't a strangers shot it's one of mine I'd put on the net P1060513.JPG . But I had no idea someone would use it. I did track the guy down who sent it

If the individual is selling the calenders for personal profit that doesn't fly with me. The individual who made the calenders and probably somone in China or some other foreign country was using photos without permission.

One Hamber has my permission to use my photos on his website. He is the only person besides Rik hoving who has permisison to use them at will. On the other hand If I post a photo of someone's car here, on my Photobucket page or on my Smugmug page in show coverage or on FB and the car owner finds it, I fully hope that they feel that it is a good enough photo to save and share. Just give me the creds for taking the photo.

I've found pictures of my cpe at an art fair and one time 2 drawing on EBay. The calendar was sent free, art fair vendor sent me a matted picture worthy of framing and the artist sent me copies matted for framing all free. I was told the cpe was also used in a tourist brochure but it was a picture the newspaper had used. It's also been shown in magazine coverage of several shows. I don't have a problem with one of my cars getting ink

    Hello,

Yes, very nice 58 Impala. Good stance, great looking wheels/hubcaps and overall look from an old 58 Impala owner from the time period of 1957-65.
The stance of your Impala is perfect. I can see the era of cruising in that Impala as the first step for us way back in 1957-58. My brother bought the 58 black Impala new as his new drag racing adventure.

I was his maintenance guy, since I did not have a license, as yet. I learned all there is to learn mechanically on that Impala. (including exchanging the complete rear axle Positraction gear housing weekly for the drag racing performance, from 4.11 Posi to a 4.56 Positraction for top performance as equals, in the all factory stock classification of A/Stock at Lion’s Dragstrip.)

    upload_2023-12-2_3-18-29.png
We instantly went to the drags upon getting a few things ready. At first, it was 4.11 Positraction gearing with a 3 speed stick shift. But, it was a hard road to winning every round as the eliminations move on after each elimination race. The top racers were somehow getting better starts and were slightly faster. So, we found out the they were using the factory approved, 4.56 Positraction gearing and that was the difference in performance wins.

In the mean time, my brother and I went to get a pair of red lenses for the rear three brake lights. The center light was the backup light and now, with the third red light in place, the rear looked more even and a cool custom touch. Rewiring was necessary to get all three lights to come on with the normal switch and then get all six to come on brighter upon braking at stops. (and to show the guy in the next lane “6 red taillights” flashing as the finish line comes blasting past… )

It was the first custom thing we did for an added accessory. It did not make the Impala faster, but in the late evening rounds, it sure looked the best sitting in the staging lanes and when approaching the starting line for the quarter mile race. YRMV

In 62, it was parked next to the Autoshop in high school, (For the newspaper coverage photo op) then a half block down the street for a full side shot for the school newspaper’s last edition of our graduating year. Red taillights, C&O Stick Hydro transmission, our custom trailer hitch, and being the fastest car in our area… yes!

That's a great story @jnaki, wow!!...swapping out the pot every weekend and, and, that's passion and serious work to boot for a grown man never mind a mid to late teen...But you and your Bro won many a race it seems because you read the track competition well. Look at those pipes...AND a 348 Tri Power...awesome...Black and new to boot...the good ole days indeed...

I took the pic of @mcsfabrication in York a few years ago. For whatever reason, he couldn't get it to post, so I said I'd do it for him.

    and then, the fun began...

    Welcome to the jungle...

    Hello,
In the early 1960-62 time period, we were introduced to the family surf style of gatherings at the San Onofre Surf Club location on the Camp Pendleton property. The club’s history goes back quite a few years with publications and books written from those old local surfers. The location has been described as a hidden gem.

To that description, the surfing waves were hard to see from the Coast Highway. Even after the freeway elevation and open property, it was difficult unless you knew where to look. Most of the young/old surfers wanted to explore the other, more raw location and outstanding surf at the Trestles compound just a mile back up the shoreline into the northern reaches of the actual U.S. Marine Corps property.

But, in my research, I came across this photo from early San Onofre. The Ford Sedan Delivery was one of a kind in So Cal. No other 40 Ford Sedan Delivery was ever seen all up and down the coastline surf spots. So, is/was it fate that one Ford Sedan Delivery would be in an old photo of the beach at San Onofre? It could have been ours, but we can’t certify that it is/was our Flathead powered 1940 Ford Sedan Delivery.

In order to get that front row parking spot next to the “shack,” we would have to have arrived just as the gate was opened and a slow cruise to the spot while checking out the breaking waves.

It was one of those days that we did not want to tromp around the jungle at Trestles as it looked crowded. We also had access to the private San Onofre Gate and Beach, so we used the access to lounge around all day and into the night. We had packed a huge lunch we were going to bury in the sand at Trestles, but now, it was handy to just sit in the shade or out on the sand to eat peacefully, without the worry of a U.S. Marine raid on the surfers sitting on the sand taking a break.

The waves were almost as good since the two areas usually take the same swells. But the bottom of each place is different enough to cause faster, steeper waves at the Trestles Surf spots, whereas, San Onofre has some size, but the waves are easier to ride, cut back and make moves on a smoother, gently rolling wave face and long wall.
    upload_2024-6-29_2-13-29.png

    Note:

Look at the area on the beach where there are people in front of the car on the right. A well tanned teen in some black trunks. My brother used to wear Everlast boxer shorts as his beach baggies. By design, those made people stay away from him and that was fine for his point of view. HA!

After his recovery process, at first, he was reluctant to go outside. But, we drove around during the weekends and holidays to get him used to being “just outside.” He did not want to stand around where people were as there were comments from people that had no clue. The comments stemmed from his arms, neck and face recovering from 3rd degree burns and that brought out some illicit comments, by some dumb people.

So, he was getting better at ignoring them and figured out a way to keep those “dumb” folks at a distance. Most folks think of boxing as an inhumane activity. So, anything to do with boxing was anti society and such. My brother figured out that since we wore baggy surf shorts anyway, why not a nylon set of baggy shorts that dried super fast and that no one else was wearing. Talk about individuality!

We drove to our local boxing gym in the Westside of Long Beach and bought a new pair of Everlast Boxing shorts. Yes, those are the ones that all boxers use and pull up high over their waists so as not to get punched “below the belt.”

For surfing, the nylon was the fastest drying material and it allowed him to get dry almost within a few minutes. Most of us were still in the “cool” cotton material long shorts stage and it took a long time to get dry. While my brother was already sitting on sand with his dry shorts, we had to stand up or sit on a couple of towels to dry off for a longer period.

He purchased faster drying official Everlast Pro Boxing Trunks made out of nylon that almost instantly dried upon coming out of the water. He did not say anything, he just had those on, when we got out of the Impala or sedan delivery to start our trek across the sand, to the water.
upload_2024-6-29_2-14-45.png These trunks had a two-point performance tactic for my brother. One, they dried faster. Two, with the Willys Coupe fire, third degree scars on his shoulders, hands and face, add in the official Everlast Pro Boxing Trunks, he was intimidating to the point of people staying a distance away, on the shoreline and in the water. Obviously, the new beach scene was a little different with the Everlast Boxing Trunks. No more chuckling while we walked to the waterline and paddled out.
    upload_2024-6-29_2-15-13.png old 1960-61 photo

So, now, despite the distraction in the foreground, it must have been much later during the day, as the teens are now sitting on the sand talking… But, the sedan delivery is still in the same location with the rear door open. It was probably me taking a quiet nap in the cool, (pun intended) back cave area.
    upload_2024-6-29_2-15-48.png

So, we happen to be at San Onofre at Camp Pendleton at just the right moment to have a relaxing day and someone takes a photo of that particular moment? What are the odds of that? YRMV
