that engine is worth some money....not sure how much, but it's a 54 235 from what I can see, and it has some really neat old speed equipment on it.
Doesn't matter.......BUY it. That is some rare intake setup and that valve cover is very rare and identical to the one some dirt bag stole out of my barn back in the mid 90's. Looks to be older 235 ? or more likely 216 with that style valve cover with the two hold down bolts in the center instead of four small "stovebolt" around the sides. Hopefully some folks much smarter than me will give better identification. Buy it. Have fun
The two studs to retain the valve cover was used through 54, even on the 235, eh? As mentioned, the side cover height is how you tell a 216 from a 235
^^^^^^ Only if it's a '50 - '52 Powerglide 235 ... '53 up are full pressure. Look for an oil distributor on the block under the headers. If it has one, it's babbit rods.
All of the speed equipment on that engine, including the valve cover, will fit on a 235ci engine up to 1962. That would be a score.
3701481 is a 1954 block. It's definitely a fully pressurized oiling system, but uses the early style water pump, making it a good candidate for upgrading an earlier car that came with a 216.
Also, you can't go by the two stud style valve cover; since all of the aluminum covers used that method of retention, lots of guys just replaced the two rocker bolts in the 1954-62 engines with the earlier studs so they could run a cool valve cover.
What was the asking price for the engine? This engine would be an upgrade from a 216ci engine. It would have insert bearings.
The valve cover and intake are probably worth that; which might be hard to find if you were looking for them. I couldn't tell in the pictures if it has headers on it.
Agree that it is a 54 with really neat equipment. The headers almost look like fabricated stainless as I think I see welds at the flanges. Either that or ground and polished cast iron. 500 is a deal!
I enlarged the pics, always select "full image" when posting... looks good. does it have chromed fenton cast iron headers on it?
they look like fentons to me, the name was probably polished off when they chromed em. they are chromed and cast iron right?
