    Here's a stock 51 Monarch, missing a few pieces

  2. I count 13 teeth. Would that be a complete '53 Corvette grille basically, because I see a repop version selling with 13 teeth.

    Thanks!

This picture is 50+ years old, but I like it as well as any grille I've seen in a Merc. Narrowed '54 Olds bar.

ProStock John, those are 54 Chevy teeth, Corvettes are smaller.

You could go with the Canadian style grill. Here is a pic of mine.

  9. Sup Mo, thanks again for all the advice. So you think maybe the '53 Corvette grille looks nice? I've been really interested in it since it looks nice and it's a floating style too but doesn't leave the cavity too bare.

That is my photo but not my car. I usually shoot the breeze with the owner when we used to run into each other at Paso. I believe that work was done by Bragg. It's similar to the grille Paul has in his convertable. My Merc came with that giant bumper guard ***embly. If I ever damage my current grill I will make a grill like that also .

John; the Vette grille can be made to work, but because of its scale looks best with a second grille shell inverted and molded in, and finished with over-sized parking lights, such as '53 Chevies. (first pic.)
The following two pictures illustrate the difference the lights make, given the same shell.

I can't place this next grille, but its an ABSOLUTE STUNNER! Some knowledgeable MAMBer can identify it, for sure. (The '59 Imperial grille that was suggested has somewhat of the same feel, by the way.)

By the way, the above links are from Car Nut. You can just scroll the index for thumbnails, without having to click. It makes for quick comparison.
Scroll through all the Mercs, and you're bound to come away with a feel for what you do (and don't ) like.

The beauty of the Merc grille opening is that it will accept any number of truly custom/composite grilles. Many Barris cars had beautiful one-of-a-kind grilles.
I once made a grille that fit the Merc shell nicely (in a '50 Ford) by narrowing and V'ing a '59 Chevy bumper over-ride bar, with custom parking lights in place of the bullets.
FlamedABone's homemade grille is breathtaking. Perhaps you could commission a similar piece.

The two stock (tall versions) vertical bumper guards are turned on their side and welded together.

El Jefe's grill is an interesting variation. I don't know if those are the short or tall bumper guards he used though.

I have no idea who owns this car. It was in the HAMB Drags coverage.

I'm not even sure what parts it is made from. But it is perfect.

Here Is a 50 Monarch grill (Canadian) I removed the verticle bars, It is also polished stainless steel and is a bolt in without alterations. I just happen to have another available if you are interested. :D

I’m interested in just removing the bumper guard overriders on a 1951 and filling it with extra teeth from the same style grill. Do any of you know which teeth and how many I’d need
