Hot Rods Car Kulture DeLuxe and Ol' Skool Rodz demise???

Anyone know what's happening at Car Kulture DeLuxe and its sister publication Ol' Skool Rodz?
I've tried to subscribe and order back issues a few times and the payment process always ends at "This Page Has Been Taken Offline" whatever that means...
I'll try doing it by phone on Monday but at the rate of car magazines disappearing, I hope these two are not suffering the same fate...
Any information anyone?

All I know is that just reading the title of this thread gave me a good feeling.

 

kinda figured that happened. i know they had an ownership change not that long ago, and i haven't gotten an issue for a while! hope it isn't gonna be the screw-job like when car craft went belly up. they substituted off-road for my cc sub, and i got one issue...

 

OK then... How do you feel about The Rodder's Journal, I haven't heard from them since I EVENTUALLY got issues 84 and 85...

 

I feel like if I was a lottery winner I'd stake em.

 

I'll happily take those Car Kulture and Ol Skool mags over the empty shelves in the car section at my local Books A Million.

 

I likewise subbed to ol skool rodz months and months ago, never recieved 1 issue and havn't seen a new on on stands in that time. Someone should partner with Ukrop and start their own traditional hot rod rag and keep it simple, inexpensive and cool

 

Having a foot in both hot rods and customs I loved those magazines. They stopped coming into Australia a few months ago and I went onto the website to subscribe but no luck. Murpho took a big gamble I guess and hopefully we will see them come back.

 

yep, another one bites the dust. read in recent past that they were raising rates because of rising cost of mailing, and fewer stores carrying their publications. never sent notices to subscribers that the end is now. We're pretty good magazines printed on quality paper.

 

They were bought & published by Murphos Rod & Custom shop in Austin. Try checking thier website or calling.
I just recieved a copy of a new issue in a registration packet for a car show last month.
I will say the quality of cars was much better. I almost mentioned it here for all you magazine guys but lazied out instead...
Next time I get to the shop I'll check the publish date/month on it.

 

Well looks like the "New" copy I got was from 22..

 

I bought Old Scoll Rodz off the local store magazine racks but hadn't seen either on the stands for months. Didn't waste much money on car culture-Bimbo deluxe.

 

Well I’m a magazine guy….but OSR lost me many years ago..too much RR looking junk..and I would pick up the occasional CCD, but even that’s been years..

As a guy that use to buy several titles regularly it saddens me..I miss my quarterly RJ, miss Traditinal Rod and Kulture, miss Elapsed Times…

I still buy Kustoms Illustrated..have every issue..and have really like Speed and Kulture magazine..as a kid growing up in the 70’s I like the features on everything form 50’s builds to 70’s street machines…it’s like I’m back as a young kid walking the Fairgrounds car show..

And hey I still buy piles of old Mags at every swap meet I go to..have enough reading material to keep me going till they throw me in the ground

I got 2 issues of my CKD year subscription, reminds me of my lifetime RJ sub. I’m a print guy, fuck the online stuff. I REALLY miss print. I lucked onto about 200 little pages mags of several titles recently from early 54 to 62. That should keep me busy for a while.

 

A couple of April issues of Ol' Skool Rodz are sitting on the shelves at two of the local grocery stores, and I having seen any signs of new issues.

Hate to hear that. It sucks to see any car magazines go away. While I probably wouldn't subscribe to those two, I've picked up a copy from the store now and again when they had something in it that interested me.

 

I would also buy one off the shelf occasionally. I found that OSR had a decline in editing with the new ownership but was coming back around.

Car magazines aren't what they once were with tons of detailed tech articles, and really being the ad source for new and exciting products for your ride. It's sad those days seem to be over and while a few are desperately trying to cling to it, I don't think they're coming back.

 

My local grocery store where I bought my various car books just carried their magazine rack out to the back ally for the trash guys to pickup. Sadly print is dying.

 

Have no clue why anyone is surprised.
People shop online/Walmart/Dollar General/Rockauto for everything from food to clothing to car parts then complain the local hometown grocery store/bakery/clothing store/parts house/newspaper closed.

 

When I can get it faster AND cheaper from Rock Auto than my local store, you're darn right I'm going to buy there. Heck, for the time I spent going to e stores before I finally found 3/8" fuel line recently, I could have just got it online. The best part of that adventure is the store manager at the third store gave me a really good discount, so I know who I'll go to first the next time.

Regarding magazines, I have a large collection of magazines dating back to the 80's of magazines my dad or I bought and some older that others gave to us. The last few years I've been selective of whether a magazine is worth bringing home and adding to the collection. Simply, a lot haven't been. It's kind of a catch-22, but I need something that catches my interest to buy a magazine.

Pathetic response to a guy's question. Do you know how many people those magazines got into traditional hot rods and customs? Though they had a lot of questionable cars in them time to time they were easily accessible and claimed to be traditional. A simple internet search later and the HAMB pops up and hopefully those people don't run into a cynical person like you when they find this place. If you don't have a constructive answer why answer at all? I guess it ups your "post count" or some BS.

As said before, it's never good when a hot rod magazine goes away. You can still get awesome coverage at the Rodding USA. This is a mom-and-pop magazine done by one of the longest photo generalists in the business Paul Martinez. Subscribe and support the magazine.

FWIW, even though OSR did have lots of RR stuff way back when, the quality of the cars they feature now has been quite good. It's a magazine worth looking at and subscribing to.

 

Still busts my chops whenever I think of all those hot rodders bitching over the last fifty years about all the ads in car magazines.

Now the ads aren’t there anymore, but guess what? The magazines supported by those ads are gone too.

Sometimes you get more than you ask for.

 

Yes one of my favourites and now here in Australia it is gone. Larry O'Toole who operated Australian Street Rodding passed away recently and his wife and son decided to cease the magazine and the online store for a lot of publications including Rodding USA. I emailed them recently to see if a new partner over here was happening(Cruzin Magazine) but no reply. Online foreign subscription individually makes it nearly $50 AUD an issue.
