OK folks, the Cadillac project is movin along again. Here are some update pics so far along the way....

    - first pic is when i first got it

    - next is a pic when i finished bagging it

    - next is a pic when i was rebuilding the top end

because i havent perfected doing body/paint myself, i then drove the car to Gambino Kustoms shop to have my friend Alex help me out....

    - next pic is along the way of taking the car down to bare metal

    - last pic i took yesterday, as the roof is beginning to get a little flake.

The first show i'll be taking the car to will be the SF grand prix in January. Still have lots of work to do, but im confident the car is going to turn out tops.

the rest of the car is going to be a different copper. i told alex what i liked, and im letting him do his thing-- so at this point, i think only he knows exactly how the paint is going to turn out :D. im excited to see it.

that said, for anyone looking for flake (or anything traditional custom / hot rod related) i can't recommend Gambino Kustoms enough. Alex is a great guy to work with and his work ethic and results rule. im excited to see how this caddy paint turns out.

I had one of those. Sold it in '71 for 10 bucks....it was in my way. I ran into it a few years later...guy had made 5 trips from here to Chicago and back @ 980 miles per trip. :(

    Scott,

Good start. Times a ticking for the SF show. Copper and flake, interesting and hints on the interior?

  16. Being bagged looks so good. Very sweet job and of corse, I love the flake.
I wonder if I'll ever pony up the money to do it to my Falcon.

    Jon,

Here are some hints of what im doing interior wise:

-interior color will be pearl white w/ black carpet

    - im using a company called "just dashes" out of Van Nuys, CA to vacuum form rebuild my dash and match the same pear white color.

    - im going to integrate some hand tooled leather portions into the seats and maybe some other spots.

    - going to build a custom column shifter. thinking something along the lines of an ape hanger upward curve to it w/ a traditional bike grip handle. Once i start fabbing it up, we'll see how that goes....

Being that a Cadillac represents ellegance, doing the interior right on this car is important to me.

thanks all for the motivation and help.

I got to see the car at the shop the other day. The roof is amazing when it catches the sun light. The pics dont do it justice.

Scott - Awesome! I agree a cl***ic very clean interior is a must for any respecable Caddie. Sounds great. Planning a project like this is really takes time and care. hate to spend a bunch of money just to not like the end result. Ape hander column shifter, interesting. Trying to get that handle up into view through the windshield like the really long floor shifters. Nice thought. may have to support it so it doesn;t drop into gear. :)

  20. I have a B&m Floor shifter with a twist grip like an old 3 speed bike. I got it from another HAMBer, but have never seen another like it.

The guts from something like it might work for your ape hanger idea.
