I was out driving the ‘55 around with my son and while I enjoy the thumbs up and waves, some guy followed me to my house. Fortunately he has a ‘57 Chevy wagon and just wanted to see the car, also he’s a neighbor which makes it better. I wonder if some of you have had any stories about people fixating on your car?

I've had that happen when I lived in town. Just wanted to compliment me on my truck. I don't need the compliment that bad. Especially since I lived on a dead-end street he wasn't going down, it felt a bit weird.

When I lived in town I disliked the attention that my open garage door brought from construction workers etc when they were in the area. Too much theft from garages in the area made me uneasy when some stranger took interest in what was in mine.

The night I got my 55, I drove it home, and backed it into the garage. About an hour later a man knocked on the front door. He said he had followed my home, and wanted to buy the car. I told him it was not for sale. He then , handed me a paper with his name and address on it. I closed the door, and thru the paper away. I still have the car , after 51 years.

I've been followed home a number of times. Usually just to check out my ride, or see if it's for sale. I've sold 2 cars that way:)

Drive to the nearest police station.

A friend had a funny story where he accidentally had cued someone to follow him and didn't realize it.

This is a great option...I was being followed one time and it was kind of obvious...I get it though as when I see a pretty cool ride and that's really rare, you many times would like to see more...again, that's pretty rare...I did as you say pull into a pretty busy gas station off to the parking spot as to do some store and they followed me in...Turned out to be a fella that just liked it...We chatted for a while and off he went and I did my store...and carried on...If I sense I'm being followed I won't go home...just me...and yes I'm insured, I just don't need the bullshit...it's worked for my entire time owning offbeat stuff on wheels...

I don't leave the Hotrod outside long either at home and the Garage doors generally closed right away...Vehicle thefts are rampant these days...As Gene said most are good intentioned...

  13. Two schools here..........Had a cop follow me.....I dodged him, but still followed. Around the block twice. Finally I said screw it, i'm done. = He was a car guy, and had Q's. ;)

Also, had someone follow me for blocks in an average daily driver....... Not knowing who it was, I hit a good patch of straight a way, and nailed it............See ya.
We can never be too careful . Today's day and age, i'm watching the rear view mirror, especially pulling up to my shop. Sucks, but the way it is........:(

Been followed a lot by guys wanting to buy the ride I was driving at the time. Nearly always, at that time I had no interest in selling, but when ever I may have been interested in selling, those guys were never around. At least that is how it works for me.

If I think I'm being followed, I will always stop at a busy business location. Over the years I've found out there usually are not many police officers at a police station unless its shift change time, they are out patrolling.

As far as being followed home, I've ran a welding shop there for 22 years, so its a pretty open to the public location, anyone that has stopped, or driven by, or walked by, had a pretty good idea of stuff that was here. Often my rides sit outside (great advertising, attracted a lot of business over the years). When the weather was nice, the garage door was open. When it got cold, or the business was closed, the garage door was closed. An open garage door meant they could stop and visit, which I would take a few minutes to do, even if I was busy. If I was busy, most would just holler and wave as they walked past. I've not ever had a problem, and there is a lot of foot traffic to the local liquor store just west of me. Be honest, friendly, and engage with the people that pass by, it solves a lot of problems before they happen.

He saw us from away, we were already parked in the garage. He was driving on the next street and had just pulled up our street as we parked the car and were fixing to close the garage door when he rolled up. It wasn’t like he was on our bumper.

Kind of when I was towing my parts car home from Detroit I saw a black Ferrari next to me with his camera out recording me. Looked like he was doing some kind of cannonball run with all the sponsor stickers and number badge on the side

Not followed, but in the same vein. I'm in farm area on county road.
When first I bought my '57 210, most every Sunday afternoon, the dogs would start yappin'.
I'd find a citizen in the driveway asking if I'd sell. So I'd pull out my phone and say "gimme your number. Not thinkin' about selling but if I change my mind I'll let ya know"
That way they know, I know, who they are.
Before I tired of it + stuffed it into the garage, I made 3 friends one who bought my 64 Cutlass.

When I was a teenager I was followed home (parents house) by a cop car after an evening of misbehaving in my my '66 Chevy II. I thought I was in for a world of trouble, turned out one of them was building an old truck and just wanted to have a look at my car. I'm pretty sure they got a kick out of how nervous I probably looked.

So many variables...to this situation...I mean if I pull in my drive just as a car buff drives by you can see them pulling in...hasn't yet...heck no ones asked if I'd sell it......well maybe a couple at shows...:)...some day...

If I pull over on the road many times people stop to see if there's any issues aka breakdown...

I've been followed home a few times. I've also followed guys home before too. One time when I followed a guy in a Model A to his place and got to talking to him, he said "This one isn't for sale, but there is some guy down off of blah blah blah..." and then he proceeded to give me directions to my place.

  28. Old Crow T-Shirt.jpg Old Crow Coupe @ Ft Worth.jpg Had just moved to Okieland from AZ. After a couple of weeks gettin settled in I hop in my 32 Coupe just to drive around and get the lay of the land so to speak. Coming back thru town a black Caddy Suv pulls up next to me and the guy yells "Nice Car". I said thanx. He follows me home about 4 miles and pulls in right behind me in my driveway, gets out and asks if he can look @ it more. We talk for a few minutes and then he say's would ya sell it? I said sure but big $'s, then tell him a I don't want to sell it price. He leaves and the next morning he's back with a big ole bag of money. Yep I sold it !!!

With my hot rods I’ve never had anyone follow me home, but since I lived on one of the main drags I used to have lots of folks stopping by while I was outside working and ask about it. I made lots of friends and even met a few HAMBers along the way, but I did have an issue with my wife being followed and you guys need to careful because it could easily happen to you.

When my wife was going through her cancer treatments (which were on the same time daily during the week) she noticed that she would see the same black car either in the parking lot of the hospital or driving around the same places she was which was usually back to the house. I told her it was just a coincidence and that the person was probably doing the same thing she was at the same time. Fast forward a month or so and when I had it at the dealer for its scheduled maintenance the service manager asked me if I had an AirTag on my car? I told him I had one on my keys but that’s it and they were at the service desk a long way from where the car was. Come to find out someone put an AirTag on her car and hid the thing so well that we (2 mechanics and myself) couldn’t find it after looking for about an hour while it was on the lift and off. So later that morning my wife had her a new GMC, and never saw the black car again.

So if you get a notification on your phone about an AirTag pay attention to it and not just push the ignore button because someone might be wanting your hot rod. Apparently that’s the big thing now is tag it and bag it later when they have the time or opportunity to get it.

  30. I was talking to a guy once about some Fargos and started telling me about a ‘57 parts truck over in my area, of course I perked right up! He then described my place and my parts truck…Doh!!
