Hi Guys, By any chance would anyone know the owner of this Model A Coupe ? - Trying to find out the paint color. I believe the car was owned (maybe still is ?) by a gentlemen by the name of Matt MacDonald. Tried sending him a message on fb but got nothing back and thats fine, he doesnt know me at all. (I'm in Brisbane Australia) anyone able to assist at all ? Thank you
Maybe check with someone on the Toyota truck site? Looks like one theirs or a new Bronco. Not being a smart ass (well, actually I am but I try not to be) but it does look a bit 2022.
That looks to be the Ford OEM color code KU, called "Area 51". I just so happened to have bought the same color for my 30 A coupe. I thought it would look great and that pic confirms it, for me. I bought my paint from Tamco when they had their 30% off sale a month or so ago. Bandit Billy is right. It is used for the Bronco and the Maverick pickups.
Area 51? Could it be that this color was accidentally developed when an anomaly in their spectral analyzer caused a data contamination in their spectrophotometer while reverse engineering and matching the color of a recovered mothership? Ancient Alien theorists say...YES!
True. The Tamco site has 3 different pics of the same color on the same page that all look different. Photos, computer monitors and most of all lighting are the culprits. At least the OP has a lead of what colors to research and see in person.
Toyota has a few nice neutral colors that would look good on vintage tin. I like the kinda yellowish/brownish color. I think it’s “Desert-something” or another.
Thanks Guys.... of course we dont have the Bronco or Maverick Pickups here in Australia but the paint code helps a huge amount. Thanks Again
Yes, I considered Toyota's "Desert Tan" as well as others, as a good solid color before deciding on "Area 51" for my A. For me, that was the key, using a solid color to keep within the bounds of a traditional look, at least for a hot rod. No one era has a lock on a solid color, claiming to be more traditional than another, in my view. Color is as old as time itself. I started my professional painting career in the mid sixties and have seen most every color and variation under the sun. We mixed more custom color than I care to remember. Some were pleasant surprises, some not. I'm sure that thousands of backyard/home paint jobs were done for little money, using whatever could be gathered up. Never knew for sure the exact outcome. As a kid I painted more than my share of army green, that was the result of mixing what I could get. For me the "Area 51" will just be a starting point. The color will be tweaked and augmented with complimentary, contrasting color. The A coup in the opening post does seem to be overwhelmed with one color. I would have to play with it some to my liking.
This is Ghost Gray military aircraft paint from Desoto Aerospace Coatings. It is a fully flat finish. Not even close to that A. If I ever decide to go shiney, I might have to look into that darker gray. Gary
All these grey shades are tantamount to gasser madness. Getting used on anything and everything, pretty much the fad color of the new millennium. I did 2, one in like '08 and another in '14. The 2nd one, he wanted "all the smoke" as they say these days. Quick edit; we used VW and other German colors of the 50s to get what he wanted. Older colors tend to be "dirtier" or less vibrant which lends a seasoning of period accuracy. The top one is an actual Packard color called Chatillon Grey.
I like the colors on the RUXTON a lot, they have a warmth and period correctness to them. Finally saw the Phil Hill purple Packard, the one that was in his family since new. In real life it looks totally different that color photos in magazines and on the internet.
For what it is worth, I painted the roadster in Area 51 (and drove it today in 35 degree weather, my guess is the Ford color Area 51
Ford AU do a colour called Conquer Grey on Rangers/Raptors. Tricky to show in pictures found online...and because they're OT.
