The car looks great. Not a speck of rust on that body anywhere! Lol, I've met guys who swore 'Vettes had metal bodies at one time.. Blown cars with 4 speeds have more fun.

I am also looking forward to what you do with the car. What rear setup are you going with?

  5. here's a look at the front straight axle set up....I was told its a direct bolt in, using the original factory '62 corvette steering . It appears to be that..... 62 corvette gasser front suspension.jpg 62 corvette gasser front suspension1.jpg 62 corvette gasser front suspension2.jpg 62 corvette gasser front suspension3.jpg 62 corvette gasser front suspension4.jpg 62 corvette gasser front suspension5.jpg

  6. yeah, it was either a Muncie or a built power glide....so far the glide is the favorite...

I like glides, step on the gas and your flying....

    yeah, so am I....

I don't know why but the 62 doesn't have any radius rods, my 59 does. So I going to weld the brackets to the frame and axle and install radius rods...thats all I know so far

  7. I took a power glide core to Quinton Brothers Racing, in VT. and they asked me what I wanted done. I said build it so I can't break it, .... when I went to pick it up the transmission builder enthusiastically explained what upgrades were added and why....and honestly, not being transmission savvy ....it went over my head....but here it is....

On the rear setup on a Corvette with a blower it may be a bit much for a stock rear housing and gear setup/axles. With a 3.55 I was wondering if you were going to use the stock setup or consider an Olds/Pontiac like they did in the 60s (Dana 60 in the 70s possibly) or Ford 9 today. Also depending on what traction aids you are going to use there may be some debate on the use of the strut rods-especially with a blown car. In any event good luck and will be interested in your build.

  15. RUST, or they got dumped into the cane fields and burned during harvest! The rustiest car I ever saw was a 58 Corvette, the frame was completely rusted into about 4 pieces!

I've been thinking about your comment and have opened my mind up to position of upgrading the rear end and suspension is the best way to go.
I have a bronco big bearing 9", a ford truck 9" and a maverick 8". Not sure if any would fit correctly. Have to measure my corvette rear the the ford rears. I'm also considering a 4 link set up.
    I have a 66 corvette 427, with a Dana 4 link . I might copy that ..... 66 corvette on lift.jpg 66 corvette on lift4.jpg

The Dana is pretty stout as you know. I have an old modified production 60 Vette ch***is with a Dana 60 and a four link. My avatar car is a big block car with a Ford 9" I got from DTS (just run ******* bars) . I also run a pretty stock 62 with a stock 327/365 and broke the rear once and axle another time before I switched to an Eaton Posi and Moser axles. I am sure your car would probably break that setup. I believe Lumpy 63 on the HAMB put an Olds/Pontiac rear in his Corvette and I gave him the measurements of a Pontiac housing I have that came out of an old 62 Vette drag car. Good luck with your build and looking forward to it.

I believe your car may have more oomph coming out of the hole for them. Vetrod62 (Jim) was pretty vocal in his opposition to them and with the way that his 62 Vette performed he is worth listening to IMO. Do a search for a thread called "Early Corvette Drag Racing Tips and Tricks" and Jim gives his .02 cents. There is another thread called "Gettingit'ta Hook up at the drags" that goes into Traction Masters as well.

When I competed with my 327 62 Vette at the Pie Crust drags several years ago they wanted us to switch from ******* bars to Traction Masters to be more period correct and so I removed my ******* bars and installed Traction Masters. That car though is pretty stock and so the Traction Masters may have helped with some wheelhop (we ran with no track prep at the starting line and no burnouts) but I do not believe they would work better than ******* bars and of course four link for that matter. Mine were the bolt on style and I even have a new set in the box (never installed) from Traction Masters if anyone wants a set. The fast and successful Vettes at the 62 Winternationals ran Traction Masters and the obviously knew how to set up the ch***is to their advantage with them I ***ume and ******* bars were still a few years away.

I suppose if you pick an era for your car you can come up with a better traction setup. Jim's (Vetrod62) runs ******* bars with his big inch small blocks and pulls the wheels in three gears and runs high 9s I believe so those may be a better alternative IMO. Here is a quote from Jim in the Early Corvette thread--

"Damn good thing we brought this up. I ran Traction Masters back in the 60s. They will stop wheel hop (also known as spring wind-up). That is worst thing you an do for traction. All the TM bars do is bind the rear suspension. Even worse on cars that have the 60-62 upper stabilizer bars. Instead of using a real 4 bar suspension to locate the instant center, the Traction Master bars Bind the rear suspension, especially with the upper bars in the latter cars by 6. All they do is bind the rear suspension to a solid rear suspension, so no spring wind up. If you want to burnout forever and not accelerate. This the way to go. Spinning is not winning. If you have the GM upper bars, toss them. Instant Center is the only way to go. It lifts the whole body, engine and frame. hence my wheel stands. I know IC was not known back then, but to bad for them. May be I should let JP explane the concept. LOL Jim"

I used Lakewood ******* bars for a 69 Camaro, they fit with no issues.

I had heard that the Camaro bars fit. Funny deal though is I had some nice Lakewood stickers and they were a tad too large for the stock ******* bars so I made a set a little larger so I could fit the stickers on them (crazy I know). I keep looking at them on the shelf and have considered putting them back on as the Pie Crust drags have gone the way of the dinosaur.

  22. As I mentioned, the car has a new 61 front clip . I wanted to eliminate the chrome pieces plus I personally think the 62 styles looks much better, so I had to do some modifications.
