I need about 150 of these little stainless trim clips for a 1940 Plymouth. I assume Auveco carries them but I can't find a listing on their site. Anyone know a source or part number.
Try Restoration Specialties. If they don't have them, you will have to improvise. What trim are they used on? I used some similar to these on my side spears and grill trim on my 41 Plymouth. They have similar fasteners at varying widths, search for moulding clips and retainers. https://www.auveco.com/moulding-clips-retainers/moulding-fasteners-10-24-x-3-4-bolt-5-16-width-12959
Thanx. Your link got me to a different place in Auveco. I think this is what I need. 1959-CLP Write a Review Your Price: $1.50 Part Number: 1959-CLP Description: Moulding Fasteners *Call for Availability before Ordering. Many sizes and types of these clips are available. Please send pictures or samples. Hood Side Moulding Fastener Chrysler 1940
I think I spent 3 days putting my grill together. lots of strips and I had to drill over 80 holes.....after the car had been painted.
My grille, body, and stainless trim are in pristine condition. I think if I can find the proper clips it will be a simple plug and play operation. I know, I know, it's a pipe dream but I can hope can't I!
Their catalog was around 900 pages at one point, but chances are good they will have what you need. One I found for a friend, he had to buy through a distributor, they at the time, did not sell retail.
My two cents worth. IF and only IF they claim to have those clips in stock, "I" would ask for a single clip BEFORE purchasing a hundred. You will find that there are many arrowhead type MoPar clips that look similar to your example but they will not fit either the molding or be too long or too short to hold the bar to the grill panel...
Yep. I had one of their catalogs back in the day. Now that cats are on-line no need for the hard copy but they make the search engines too complicated to find what you are looking for most times.
This is one of the rabbit holes I have not gone down on mine. Would like to hear which you end up using with part numbers! I will tell you that the 6 small strips on top are narrower and use smaller clips than the grille parts, and the hood and body strips are a bit wider than the grille. The center strip uses a clip with stud and nut. This seller has a number of different clips with kind of generic part #s, like 1956 and 1953. These might be helpful if you can find the replacement catalog. Having even OE numbers won't help if the sellers are using replacement part numbers. It appears that the part of the clip that is inside the trim has various curves to fit the trim part. https://www.ebay.com/usr/soaparts?_trksid=p4429486.m3561.l2559
Good start; they asked me to send them a sample so should be able to get exactly what I need. I think the lower grille bars and body beltline trim both use the same clip. The body trim flanges are close together to accommodate the same clip. Will report what they come up with.
Might try this guy. https://www.oldmoparts.com/ I’ve never done business with him but you might check it out and find what you are looking for.
I picked up the correct different sized clips I needed for my '40 Plymouth trim from Clipsrus on ebay. It's been 11-12 years ago so don't know what they have now.
This was for an OT clip for one of his customer cars. By sheer luck I came across it... online. Like finding the needle in a haystack.
One thing you need to be aware of, some places like Macs and Carpenter (on Fords) will list ONE clip to do the long fender piece on my Ford. It actually takes 3 or 4 different ones. I had the factory trim manual that showed them correctly. Restoration Specialties had them all.
going by ebay listings, these are some of the part numbers. Here are the side vent parts. 872628 872629 OEM MoPar Headlight bezels are 872310 OEM I guess the smart move is to buy this, but I have no idea if it includes the clips for all the parts. https://www.ebay.com/itm/3617367054...DoJ0autZy/79/l6U8EZFl6MyOleI|tkp:BFBMlKaJ7IJj
The same seller, Faxon literature has this, which covers the whole car. https://www.ebay.com/itm/1627606039...ymouth&hash=item25e549b94a:g:6l8AAOxyA4ZRS2Xf "This reproduction of the Chrysler publication is your ultimate resource for finding original automotive hardware. See drawings of original parts along with original part numbers, part names, diameter, thread dimesions, length, material, and finish. Includes indexes by part names and by part number. Buy now for this hard-to-find reference." Sounds like the best deal at 24 bucks, BUT it does not list aftermarket part number reference, so that would be another concern trying to track down the right clips.
Restoration Specialties has only 3 clips listed under 1940 plymouth https://www.restorationspecialties.com/1940_c_4850.html 1955-CLP $1.80 1956-CLP $1.80 1953-CLP $1.80
That's them I reckon. This topic brings up a peeve of mine. Why make 9,134,953,850 different clips to do exactly the same job on every car made? Why not make the 3 or 4 clip designs that would cover every application? Why make just as many sparkplug designs? All they do is spark. Make the 3 or 4 styles that would cover every engine ever built. Why make thousands of tie rod end designs? Make the 3 or 4 sizes that would fit every vehicle ever made. There. I'll get off my soap box and go back to drooling in my corner.
Agreed. Jaguar used the same front wheel bearings from something like 1937 to the 80s. Guess what, a car around 3-4000 pounds has roughly the same loads, even through most brake and tire changes. Same with those plastic clips, 3-4 sizes and 2-3 depths should cover 99% of use, but NOOOO! O-rings come in standard sizes, don't make something special! How many different coolants are needed? And one of my favorites, even high school dropouts understand drain plug goes at lowest point, make clearance for the fluid to drain without other things in the way! But engineers can't figure this out?
Willys36 I may, and mean MAY have found the clips you are looking for. Let me know if you are still in need of them, or if you worked something out. I was not with my phone when I found these so I will have to return to them to photograph them if you are still interested.
