Please show me your AV8 tudor gas tank solutions. Bonus if you retained your rear seat.
I see Speedway sells a "'32" style tank (not cheap) - anyone try this?

    Thanks!

Over the years I've sold a few sets of the under the splash apron saddle tanks from TANKS. On the cars we build these days I think they are a little to close to the ground. Customers also reported difficulty with filling. I've also sold several kits to put the 32 tank on the model A. If this isn't done with some forethought I think it looks a little tail heavy. Needs to be tucked as far forward as possible. Some guys put the tank inside the car behind the back seat but that makes me a little nervous. The placement of the fuel tank in a model A requires much research.

Honestly I didn’t take pics of the frame horn installation. I attached to the original rear crossmember and gusseted them. Tucked the tank as far forward as I could with contact of the 9 inch rearend.

The saddle tanks is another option. I’ve used them once on a sedan I built. I hated them and wouldn’t use them again . Real pain to fill.

I have a vertical aluminum 17 gallon tank (RCI #2171) behind the seats of my '28 Tudor.
It's held in place by a framework of 1.5" angle and is isolated by an 18-gauge steel "firewall".

@wstory did the 32 tank deal in his build, but went to a lot of trouble to make it look right. Pics in his thread from memory.

I’ve got saddle tanks on mine, guess we’ll see if I hate them as well but I didn’t want it in the car and I like seeing the banjo with the *** in the air instead of the 32 tank blocking it all.

I do think it looks great on @Primered Forever sedan as I’ve looked at it plenty of times and it’s
never jumped out at me or made me look at it. I feel like that’s where a lot of guys miss. They try to dress up a part instead of making it blend in or disappear

20210602_141713.jpg 20230529_112202.jpg What's wrong with the stock tank? I know mine isn't a 28/29 but I had one and ran the stock tank on it too. Makes gauges a little tight but no big deal. 20210602_141713.jpg

The stock is certainly a consideration. Fitting a different dash was the concern, but you've done it nicely. Which dash it that? Love it!

36 ford. It took some cutting but fits nicely. I'm also not sure what your rear suspension is, but if you have coilovers or spring behind the axle the 32 tank won't fit on a sedan. The back is so short it will hit the suspension before being tucked up nicely.

If you look at my dash the center round ashtray is held in with magnets and when pulled off you can see the stock Model A fuel gauge. Works out really well!

I only hated them because 7 gallons per side and the gas pump hose not long enough to fuel both tanks without turning the car around to get to the other side to fill and no matter how careful I was I always ended up with gas on the apron and running board.

I plan to mount mine behind the rear seat area similar to @Just Gary. What is the concern about having it in the car?

    That's brilliant!

As for the rear end - stock 1939 with model T springs.

back up to the pump? Actually the tanks I have were to have long *** filler necks that both end behind the stock bumpers. I’m gonna put a 90 and cap them in front of the rear fender out the apron. Should be able to park the p***enger side close to the pump and reach around the back to the other with a little trial and I error I think.

worse case I’ll be “that guy” parked slanted at the pump lol.

Can’t believe how good @flatout51 dash turned out. I don’t necessarily mind a stock tank it was just in the way of my pedals so I gutted it.

Also seems like it would feel more stable with out 11 gallons sloshing around shoulder high but maybe not.

Yup, this is mine. I like this option the best for A tudors. I also had those saddle tanks. A pain to shuffle both sides to fill!

Thanks man it fits really well! The way I justify having the gas in my lap is that the tank is so far away from another car being able to hit it directly that if they did hit it I'm dead anyway. I never liked the 32 tank basically being the bumper same with a tank mounted behind the seat that my kids sit in. It seems like the stock tank is my safest option. At least in my mind which we both know isn't all that intelligent haha

I've looked at this for the last 2 yrs and still haven't decided yet which way I want to go.

31 Tudor, definitely keeping back seat. I do not want the original tank over my lap.

I'm down to three choices, 1- build a tank behind rear seat, 2- 32' tank and 3- build a similar tank like the 32' but making it more"L" shaped so that it goes under car so far and then up the rear back panel more than protruding further out the rear.

I like idea 3 but the trick will be having it go up the rear panel will making it look good....

Not sure if this helps but my plastic side tanks were filled from the front of the rear fenders allowing the tanks to be completely full. A dash mounted switch to the solenoid valve allowed switching tanks. I would just fill the tank that was empty so never had to fill both at once. No gas inside, no tank at the rear. 100_6661.JPG 100_6662.JPG Overlook 2.JPG
