This is what we did on a ‘34 roadster at work. It needed the oil pan clearance on a later Flathead with a two-piece pan. But between the spacer and lowering the car so much, still had to cut the wishbones to bring the caster back from 8.5 to 6.5 degrees. It had been very hard to steer at lower speeds or in a parking lot. Even with an F1 box.

You have any pictures of what you purchased? What's their website address?

I think an unsplit wishbone always works smoother than than split bones if you can make it happen.

  5. Don, when I raised the front of my car for the gasser look, the caster went crazy, negative. I built a spacer about 4.5 inches high. Just lucky on my part, my uncle had a piece of plate in his stash, that someone had made a nice round divot in. I started with that. I now have about 5° positive caster. Gene.

Looks good, is the price in US dollars and was shipping expensive?

  8. If your car sits at a rake you might have a net of zero change in caster.

I had splits bones on my 40 with the CE brackets that hung down of the X member about 2-3”. It drove great, so I wouldn’t worry about 1*. It had 7*.

  9. Did something similar years back. Didn’t realize how ugly it was till I drove over to a guys house. His comment was. What the hell have you done!!!

  10. Yes, US dollars. I bought two. Pm me!

  11. I was trying to figure out why my coupe steers hard when maneuvering a parking spot etc.
I think this is the issue. After checking my caster. We will see! I’m using a 56 Ford pickup box that is all new.

  12. Makes sense to increase the caster by adding the wishbone dropper. Does your car steer better now?[IMG] [IMG]
Have you checked MAC's Spped new website? Much easier to navigate now.

If you have a segment one foot long, leaving one end at a fixed point and dropping the other end of that segment 0.209 inches will equal 1º.

A circle with a 12" radius has a circumference of 75.4". Divide that circumference by 360º nets a change of 1º equaling 0.209.

Tell me the length of your wishbone from the center of the perch bolt to the center of the wishbone ball and I can tell you how many degrees it will change based on whatever drop you tell me. OR, tell me how much more caster you want and I can tell you how far to drop the ball.

And how many of us in school said "I'll never use this kind of math in real life"

That was me for sure. And as usual, I was wrong. I had to figure out the math stuff long after I got out of school.
