My 57 wagon needs new tires, the old ones are rotten.
I am running 225/60R15 on the SS Cragars and I am finding that 15 inch tires are hard to find. All I have found are modern style tires with odd designs on them.
I am trying to keep the cost down, so Cokers are out for now.
I found BF Goodrich TA radials for a okay price with a tire shop here where I live.
I will need to turn the white lettering to the inside for a old school look.
I known that radials are not what most like here, but I want to drive it down to LA on Highway 5 to see my daughter and car shows down there.
So, if someone knows of a better looking Tire for around $180 please let me know.

If you are coming down to LA area. Check out performance plus tires in Long Beach. They have your T/A for 158.00 and other options.
I got lucky and bought the Coker radials when they were 225.00 before the prices soared.

I got a set of 235/70r15 coppers for 126 each plus taxes and install at America's tires. I got there replacement plan too. America's tire price matches pretty much anyone.

I am definetly not a period-correct guy, but to me the raised white letters just don't look right on a 50's car (sorry, AJ). That said, neither do the Hankook tires I have on mine, but not so obvious. Mine have the "odd design" that the OP posted in his opening post, but they are great tires. I went with them because of a wider range of tire sizes available than most other brands. My fronts were replaced about a year ago with 60k+ miles, and my rears look to be about 1/2 worn with 74k miles on them! Don't believe I've ever had a tire last so long on any car, and my car handles great in dry or wet weather.

Ouch Tex! Lol Im kinda going for the dirt racer NASCAR look haha! I tried a set of black walls and I didn't like all the design in the sidewalls. Even these tires in the backside with no white letters still have design. I like the sleek smooth side walls but I can't pull off white walls .

  9. I'm another fan of Cooper Cobras. But they no longer make a 225/60-15, but do have a 215/65-15 which is very close to the same diameter, just a small bit narrower. How about $125 each to your door?

Want to spend even less? I've had good luck with Hankook and Falken tires also, but they also don't offer a 225/60-15 anymore, just the 215/65.
Don't like the 'designs' on the sidewall? Sand 'em off....

I think they about eight inches, not sure a 100%, they look towide to be seven inches wide.

I never thought of sanding the side walls of the tires.

On sanding the tires it easier to lift the car and put on a jack stand and turn the wheel as you go. I did this to clean up a messed up white wall and it worked well.
Also note it's messy and can stink. So wear eye, hand and breathing protection.
