Anyone know for sure who made these valve covers? I've had a pair on my 34 since 1972. According to Chico, as far as he knows Moon never made a BBC valve cover This all that they have inside: They have a great traditional look to them with "real" fins that go right down over the ends. Not thin vertical ones like die-cast valve covers. My best guess is early Cal Custom maybe before they tooled up for these die cast ones with the thinner 7 fins?? : Anyone have a 60's Cal Custom Catalog with decent pictures in it? Just curious, didn't realize the ones that were damaged in my fire were an odd duck And yes subject should be 426 not 416
They have a Cal Custom look to me too. I have a pair of Cal Custom Big Block Chevy valve covers and the knockout plug looks nearly identical
I'm coming to the conclusion that those aren't Cal custom after poking aound on Ebay in the Cal custom valve cover listings. The early US made ones show to have Gardenia California and the parts number on the inside and the one Chevy one I found that was made in Japan has the part number and Japan on the inside. I did find a pair of Mopar wedge covers eBay item number:276180035783 but no photos of the insides. That is the pair that are right side up.
Those are the seven thin fin die cast Cal Customs with two holes per side with rims the same height as the fins vs. one in center that is flush at the base of the fins and all of the fins are intereuped by the recess for the breather....
I don't think they're cal customs either. I have an old set of cal's for my 440 I bought but they're too pitted to polish up and use on my 31 tudor. Couldn't see the pits when I bought them due to yrs of being painted orange, black, red, etc. Don't know how many coats of paint were on them. Oh and they're not the late 69'-70' no name mickey Thompsons either, 1 or 2 yr run only. I have a good pair of those but the fins are only across the top not down the ends.... . ..
Wow, never knew Edelbrock made no-name valve covers! Learn something new every day and you'll never get old Just found these on that auction site and they have 4175 cast on the inside. Guess we'd need an Edelbrock historian totell us how many different BB Mopar valve covers they made with the same model number. These aren't anywhere as nice as the ones in the lead photo - 9 "little" fins instead of 6 full height old school fins..
