In case you haven't seen it already, there's a very similar car on page 24 of this thread.. https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/specials.720448/page-24#post-13639512
It looks like the fins are welded/tigged. But still quit a project. Finned to cool the charge? Really nice car!
Isn't there a shaft visible from the crank in one picture? Six Ball, I kind of thought the same. Sure would like to see a close up. The whole damned car is pretty cool.
Sort of see blower shaft in 4th pic; but how attach to engine & how attach blower? Looks like passes through steel framework for bearings - maybe? Always like all details
I don't have any more pics of the supercharged MG, unfortunately. If I see it again ... This car: 'Ford Socal'; only these three pics.
'Alta Ford V8 driven by Ted Gray and Lou Abrahams' - Victoria Trophy at Fisherman's Bend (Melbourne), 22 March 1954; State Library of Victoria - looks like an Ardun overhead valve conversion
'Lex Davison in a HWM Jaguar, Ted Gray in an Alta Ford and Jack Brabham in a Cooper Bristol' - same event as previous photo; State Library of Victoria
I found this photo today under a different search title. Same Alta Ford as above, same event. I noticed the driver's contortions and then spotted the disconnect between the front wheels ... there could be a broken component dragging along behind the left front wheel. (State Library of Victoria)
j hansen: thanks. I keep forgetting to check primotipo .............. he (Mark Bisset) seems to have all these Aussie specials and their drivers covered.
I have been reading lot of that Aussie site “promotipo” Skip the newer GP stuff lot of specials from 30s - late 50s. Interesting how there “”specials” well accepted while in American hot rods were not.
https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/attachments/053-jpg.5903363/ A lot going on with that front suspension.
That “Salamanca special” is a mind blower - & not just the front suspension. Looks like wood frame, scoop alone held down with strap & front hook, windshield is stone prevent screen as are vents in front of it, & love the tiny “splash” guards ( more likely stone guards). And what is that front suspension? I see streamlined front steer & transverse spring but so low where is the axle? Aussie/NZ specials are wonderful. & plentiful
