Nice picture , I roamed that neighborhood as a little kid, my Mom's family lived in an apartment on Lyman before I was born. I see the old MD Church which was knocked down, a real shame as it had classic lines and a lot of beautiful artwork painted on the structure, I have some pictures of it somewhere, thanks.

    Hello,

This A/MR is the famous “Tennessee Bo Weevil.” Built and raced by Ray Godman and Preston Davis.

Yes, why is a So Cal Westcoast old racer/hot rod guy interested in a drag race modified roadster from Tennessee? That is/was a good question…

My brother and I always read every weekly edition of the Drag News publication as we went to the local shops, a few blocks away from our home in the Westside of Long Beach. It was a way for us to stay in touch with the fast growing drag racing scene in So Cal then expanding the coverage to other parts of the USA to see what was going on at those locations.

One story caught my eye and I gathered a lot of information on the build. The “Tennessee Bo Weevil” was making noise in the Midwest and that made us wonder, about the name. We learned in school about the destructive Boll Weevil and so we always admired the name “Bo-Weevil” in Drag Racing.

The story of Ray Godman was inspiring and the success of the Modified Roadster was impressive. Even though it looked as if someone dropped a roadster body on the modified Chassis Research style frame, it was always a legal entrant in the Modified Roadster classes, until those classes bit the dust in a political and possible economic move by the drag racing associations.

In a tribute, I added the original sound of the “Bo-Weevil” making runs at the 1959 championships as transferred from my digital edition of the LP album “Hot Rods and Dragsters in Stereo.” One of the best drag racing sounds LP album and descriptions of each racer. YRMV

    Note:
Sorry... If you get the version of the film tribute with advertisements, they are not my doing. Somehow, You Tube puts them on various films. I did not want any ads and my early films on my channel do not, but sometimes, someone puts them on. Very irritating, but no answer from You Tube honchos...

Something tells me those chains on the tires aren't going to do much good at this point. 136640630_10208698699620922_9007805519047583945_o.jpg
