    That 64 polara came with push button transmission, guys liked to rev em up and hit drive which eventually resulted in catastrophic failure.

    What could be more traditional then building it yourself rather then buying it?

    I have seen a couple built in period hot rods with similar front axle set ups.

    @nickthebandit had one for sale a few years ago and Tommy Sparks’ roadster pick-up axle is done this way.

    Traditionally crude approach. But...... you could mount the headlights on the tie rod ala Tucker. Ron

    If it was done in a jig, was well built and with good welds I don't see it as crude, perhaps not aesthetically pleasing.

    Given the fact it has a tow bar I doubt it was a streetcar, more likely a drag car.

    People have completely lost sight of what hot rods, stock cars, and drag cars of this era were, hand-built cars by blue collar people who made do with what they had.

    Those guys did with junkyards, thought innovation, hand tools, torches, welders and maybe a lathe what people of today do with fat wallets, and checkbooks.

    If they had an idea, they built it tried it out and if it didn't work, they came home took it out and built something else.

    Tow bar appears to be every bit as well engineered as the crude axle. FWIW the first axle I had dropped by Mor-Drop cost me about twelve dollars to have done. If you had to do it yourself a hammered and filled job I'd trust more than the home fabricated item shown. I do try to avoid hasty generalizations. Ron
