Hi, has anyone figured out a way to add a filter to the old Cal Custom "Scott Slot" scoop? On a 4 barrel carb.

    Thanks, Joel

Nope, which is why I don't have any interest at all in using a scoop like that.

The problem with all those old Cal custom scoops is, most are missing the original base to attach them. If you have that, or fab one, you should be able to find an element to fit. Gonna have to get creative.

A paper filter thats small enough to fit would be way to restrictive. You only option may be some kind of mesh to keep the big rocks out.

Those due have a good CFM rating. Those little filters flow like 25 CFM . Lol . Just what you want on a hot rod !

The top of the filter would need to seal against the inside top of the scoop, to be effective.

    Try PJ Motorsport

I linked a page, but look around the site if you don't see what you need on that page. They are designed to fit stacks, but Greg of Engle Bros Fabrication used some in his cast ally 'surfer' style scoops. He had to modify them slightly, but worked a treat with 2g's. I plan to use the same on mine (in my avatar)

His scoop has a 5-1/8" hole, which fits a Holley and later AFB carbs. If you want to fit a carb with a smaller diameter air horn, then you need the adapter.

It is not the diameter, needs a base for clearance.

Thanks for all the helpful suggestions so far. The filter would come out on the track, and only be used for street. So CFM rating is not overly critical.

  13. In the pic posted by MCjim, there appears to be some sort of screen material inside the scoop. I am going to guess that is as good as you're going to get. No actual "filter", just a screen to keep the large chunks out.

Run a regular air cleaner/filter on the street and the scoop at the track?

I'll probably get roasted for this, but I used the foam filter element from a lawnmower. They come in various sizes and you can cut to fit the housing. My avatar shows them under Stromburg cleaners, i was able to just wire them to the front of the spark arrestors. On yours, a few small holes would do it.

The original elements for either the surfer style 4bbl air cleaner , or the injector style is a foam covered screen. The foam goes away after about 10 years. Looks to me like Cal Custom had their own unique manufactured piece. 5E909EC8-0920-4FC2-A991-6BB8181CC835.jpeg C0095126-A4C1-473C-8E21-6166E57E2A1A.jpeg E017DD4A-02CF-4867-8A00-CB064524F436.jpeg 7879F351-A4B5-4277-AFAB-E5AB915EE09F.jpeg 3986B604-F6E2-45AD-AB4C-6A92C6B24519.jpeg 6840A424-8ABA-43D0-BA3F-40A7EB064CF3.jpeg

IMG_8655.jpeg IMG_8656.jpeg I just sold a bunch of 40-30 scoops. and yes,.... the secondary base is completely necessary .
When I did use them.......I purchased a section of Automotive foam(like a lawn mower filter type,...John Deere, I believe) cut to fit and sandwiched them in between the screens.
    worked well.

Hollywood, I snagged those pics off of ebay, because I didn't have any pics handy of my scoops. Search ebay for cal custom scoop, you'll find it..

I'll just jump in here to comment that those Cal Custom scoops can be restrictive already without a filter element. Guy here in TX with a 6-71 blown 350 with dual 4's in a model A coupe was running them and he took them off and couldn't believe the difference in HP and ET. If it's for a street car and you don't care about that, carry on.

I would use a Flat disc inside ,
K&N style element is the closes to No restriction & still be a filter ,
A few pics of , not bling bling but do the job

    Hillborn Barn Door Top,

& Paper on a blower (500hp) on dual 4s, you would Need flitter like
12x12x 18-24 , maybe bigger , for @ wide open , I know there's quite a few on here with paper elements with blowers will say different but once you start doing testing and flowing you will see the difference, street driving is one thing and wide open throttle is another
