I just bought a second lift for the shop. didn't really need it.
Got a great deal on it and I'm going to use it to stack cars.
Impulse buy. Trying to justify purchase but doesn't really matter.
I need to sell some cars instead of storing them. :D
I'm a tool junky and car addict. If one is good two is better.
Have multiple grinders, paint guns, jacks etc.

I have 2 two post hoists in my 12x7M (40'x24') shed.
I had them both occupied with expired cars in the last 6 months.
Like Fastcarl, if one is good two is better.

  3. Yet none here, due to low ceiling height.

20230818_070853.jpg 20231005_092926.jpg Yup. 2 post lift in the main work bay. Low rise scissor lift in the '57s private room. I store the car off the ground. It keeps the bi plys from flat spotting and is a good height for swapping pumpkins, lol in the 9 inch.

  5. I don't have a tall enough garage to have a car lift but if I could I would have four or five of them not to stack cars but to allow me to work on more projects.
Your lift is a totally justified purchase.

  7. Same here....2 post 10K in the main part, scissors lift in the back. Problem is even since I made the mistake of setting a sheet of plywood on the scissors lift, it became an expensive table & like every other flat spot is piled with ****!

    God Bless

I bought a Bendpac 10k ***ymetric two post maybe six or seven years ago. Don’t know why I waited so long. Guess it seemed like too much of a luxury.

We sold a house next door that I bought out of foreclosure when I retired. Bought it for a project, and for the 24x32 garage. I finally finished the 11 year project and sold the house, but lost the garage space. I considered building space at the shop to replace that lost space, but came to the conclusion that two four post lifts would be cheaper than building, and would keep my bones off the ground. I ended up with an 11k that fits the dually, when required, and an 8k xlt, both from Advantage. They are tall enough that I can easily walk under them if not actively working on something.

In retrospect, I could have probably got by with cheaper, smaller lifts, since I have the 36 coupe on one, and that’s a light car.

I know money's tight, but the things are now near $2,000. I saw one a month ago used on FB for $850. I traded work for mine and I can tell you, it's the most valuable tool I own. It so much saves abuse on the back.

Only lift I have is a floor jack.:( Not enough ceiling height for a lift, if I were to buy one it’d have to be outside, not sure how well the electrical part would fare out in the weather although I have seen some outside at tire and muffler shops.

I only have one, a 4-post which fits all my collector cars but is a bit too narrow for my modern pickup. It's truly a game-changer, and I couldn't go back now. I use mine for work, not storage.

Had a grade school teacher that used to say “nobody gets two until everybody gets one” would love to have a lift but don’t have the ceiling height.

You're in Alabama, there's no building codes ;). Got a second story, get an elevator! Been trying to convince @moriarty to do this for years.

2-Post and 4-Post here. Each has their own advantages/disadvantages. Two-post makes it easy to do suspension work, etc. but takes some finagling to get a car on and off, especially something like a full fendered Model A with stock suspension. The 4-post is great for setting up ride height, exhaust, plumbing, etc. with the car on all four wheels and at ride height and is also good for those quick jobs that are made easier with the car in the air, as it's much easier to just drive the car up on the four-post than to set it up on the two.

Other things like lifting a body off a ch***is, etc. make having a lift more like a crane at times, which is invaluable. You don't always have four buddies around to help out and sometimes, things need to be separated 2-3 times before the job is done. Even simple things that don't require being under the car are made much more manageable having the vehicle a comfortable height off the ground, saving from having to bend over, etc and/or having the job at eye level. Undercoating/ch***is detailing, exhaust, plumbing; once you have one, you'll wonder how you survived without.

I wouldn't want to do brake line and fuel system plumbing, exhaust, etc on the scale that I normally do without a lift. I'd probably be crippled. :D

Ohhh Boyyy, how I'd love to have a 2 post, BUT like others here, not enough height in my flat roof garage. I do know my poor wife is tired of me ragging about needing a lift cause Im getting tired of laying on the floor...In my next life maybe.... Lucky dogs. Mitch

I have a Scissor lift in my body room, and a 2 post in the IMG_1848.jpeg IMG_1365.jpeg main shop area. The scissor lift is a great addition, especially if you have a limited ceiling height.

I have one 4 post drive on lift I just recently got. I went with a 4 post because my cement floor is not thick enough to support a 2 post lift. I only have 11' ceiling but I can still have one car in the air and another under it. All the 2 post lifts I looked at needed more ceiling height and a thicker slab to mount on. Plus my 4 post is not fastened to the floor and came with a wheel kit to move it if needed.

When I designed my home 15 years ago, I included 12' ceilings, power and deep, tied, rebar concrete for 5 of my garage bays. I only installed the one 2 post Rotary, but it would be easy to add more. Not likely for me unless my wife leaves me and I am left to my own stupidity. I do want to build one more car...

Those scissor lifts look great, but only for body, brakes and wheel work etc.? You couldn't pull out a trans with them could you?

Ding, ding, ding! That's me! I've been thinking about a four post, but was unsure if the 11" height was doable. What do I look for? Heck, I may get two:rolleyes:

Yeah, anything under the middle of the car is kind of blocked.

I see a lot of guys not buying a lift because they don't think they have a tall enough garage. My shop has a 9 foot ceiling height, and I thought the same thing for years. I got to measuring and ended up buying a 4 post. I have a 1927 T roadster that is very low, and a 1926 T coupe that is pretty tall plus an OT corvette. I can stack the roadster and the 'vette. Can't stack either with the '26, too tall.
For working on them though I can stand under the roadster and the Corvette. The '26 I can only get about 4 feet off the floor, but that is enough I can sit on my rolling stool and roll right under there. I bought an extra tall lift, so I can raise it up completely out of the way when nothing is on it.
Glad I bought it. Without it my hotrodding days would be over, for sure.
