that's so cool... you better watch out though, pretty soon he's going to want to use it all the time, and you won't get anything done on it. "Dad, I want to use the english wheel!" "Not until your homework is finished!"
That's a great picture! The little guy with the ear muffs is smart. He's ready for the screaming if the other little guy rools his thumb through there.
Believe it or not these guys are really into it, they have been watching me since babies, and if I can pass down this trade to them at a young age then who knows, right? They ask the craziest questions about this stuff, its really cool.
Little Maximillions.... no wonder Juan's truck came out so nice, you had your boys do all the work. Is that Watcha's Revenge? -Juan
jeez, I wish our dad had an english wheel! can't complain though, he had other cool tools, glad we got to learn from him growing up. he
Hope the little dude doesn't get his fingers in there. Then Mom won't let him build hot rods with Dad!
Naah! He's cool, I keep a close eye on the boys in the shop. Plus, I show them what each machine or tool can do to those fingers! They need to learn respect for each one, as I have and continue to. But, yeah..mom might be a little mad, but, that doesn't stop 'em, they are krazy, probably get hurt more on there bikes than anything in here. Hey DeadEnd brothers! Yes, that is 'Whatcha II', Jesus was strippin' that baby all weekend! This time...Were headed for the Journal, Ha-Ha, J/K. I want it in Deadend for debut! Talk soon!
Yeh??? that thing is sweet!!! how to I make one? great idea teaching them young. wish i had a father like you when i was growing up. (and not just cause your teaching them car stuff - but helping them learn and spending time with them
Yes, I made it, basically, I bought the wheel kit from 'MetalAce', its the best for your money, which was about $1,200. Then, I scaled a picture of one and made my dimensional drawings for my laser guy, ordered a 5'x10' sheet of 1/4" hot roll plate, he cut two for me. I cut several pieces of 6"x6"x.120" square tubing, and welded them to one side, then placed the other cutout on top and welded them together, boxed the outside edges with 3/16"x3" h.r., welded all edges and ground them down and filed all edges smooth, it was more than I bargined for because I'm a stickler for making stuff look like one piece. The price for one of these, this size from Ron Fournier is $6,500 + freight (which could reach a grand). I have about $2,000 in mine. I was able to roll 1/8" 5052 Aluminum 'Blisters' for a pontoon boat, job a few months back...I think it passed the test!
I'm a little confused about the construction. you had 2 of the 1/4" "C" plates cut and then you spaced them with 6"x6" then boxed it in with 3" - I guess i'm confused about the math. The spacing tubes were 1"x6" maybe?? What are the dimensions on that thing?? if you don't mind sharing - i'm sure HAMBer's need another winter project. - Throught depth?? Perhaps the scale drawing?
Sorry for the confusion, my mistake, but yes I had two 1/4" pieces cut, layed one down, cut several 6"x6"X2.875" square tubing, spaced them accordingly, welded, then layed the other piece on top, welded. After all that, then I had a landing for the boxing plate to sit on, plus, a nice corner bevel to fill with a good weld, then all edges were ground and filed. When I get time, I will give you some dimensions, and I think I took several pics when in the build process.
Awesome!! thanks - it would be much appreciated. That is probably one of the best looking and best constructed e.w.'s I've seen
