A few progress shots on the historic Thomas roadster, ..Not!.., i'm sure it has a history of some sort, I just don't know any of it:)
Please don't let the shiney wheels in the background bother, offend, distract, or otherwise detract from the main subject which is the roadster!

as some know I was almost at this point before, when the car was ripped apart by the stupid hurricane, and all the mechanicals flooded with sal****er and mud, but its back now, and here to stay. I still have little things, like brake lines and wiring to do after the engines back in, but all the machine work is done, just need to ***emble the shortblock and bolt on the tripower.
Dash is done, rumble is working, 32 tank fitted, so hopefully wont be long now.

Probably sounds dumb, but I could stare at it all day. It's been a dream for a long time, the car I used to draw as a kid in school....I know theres no earthshattering new ground broken here, just another 31 on deuce rails, but its pretty cool to me to me....

    A few things to fix,
grill shell is too high, will have to get the radiator chopped, a bummer.

headlights, not sure about placement yet, they look to far forward but will hit the shell unless i move them out....

windshield has to come back a hair

Have to pick a wheel color, more than likely black, but may try a dark maroon, tan, not sure.

Probably need to go to a 7.50 tire in the back

everything else is gravy now though...here it is...........

my kid likes it at least:

the bad side....15 bullet holes in this quarter...you can see how high the grill is here...

I was too lazy to move the other car.....

please, no hate'n on the 37....its not the focus here anyway..

  4. I like the bullet holes and the 37. Car looks great, Mark

  5. Your car does have a history. Didn't it survive Katrina. It also used to be a boat. Bad joke. Great to see it back together. Pat.

Very nice. Really too bad you had to start over but at least you did it with some p***ion. How many of us would have the guts to rebuild a destroyed car that was once almost complete?

Your kid has good tastes in cars. Leave the bullet holes. Black car is cool, too!
You are to be commended for this, must be really tough to be as far as you were and have to start all over again.

thought about that!, busted my tail to try to have the roadster going in time for CTC too, but guess it'll have to be next year, the little things just killed me timewise..at least it made me get off my hump and work on it.

anyway guys thanks for the encouragement....

    Love the car.

    A few questions for you.

How did you go about using the '32 tank with the 'A' body? Did you drop the rear frame rails or cut the body around the tank?

What crossmembers are you using in the frame?

Got a picture from the rear?

how did you fit the 31 body on the duece rails? did you have to pinch the rails and if so how much? what else do you have to do to the frame to fit the body? is there an article somewhere on how to do it? thanks

    Congratulations ... :)

A lot of folks do not know or understand the damage to Mississippi ... from the storm ... I did not ... until I went to Mississippi 2 weeks ago. There are still lots of homes damaged and trees down everywhere ... one year later ...

Fellow HAMBer 3 Deuces and I went down and got a project for him ... and were amazed at the damage to the area ...

No f-ing way, that's the best feeling, the first time out of the shop, and to be able to see your work come together.

Car looks great, look forward to your up-dates !

I'll post a rear shot later today, in a nutshell, I removed the stock "A" bottom piece that the quarters rest on, and made a new one from 3/16 steel that was much thinner but still has the needed support there, you can't see it from the rear, which is what I was going for, then I cut the frame horns and dropped them enough to give me clearance below the body, Also had to trim the back of the tank to get it as close to the body as possible, wish I could get it another inch forward but the buggy spring is in the way, the only way to get it closer is to cut into the tank, so its not bothering me that badly. Later i'll make some filler pieces to clean up the corners around the frame horns but really doesnt look bad without them.

Crossmembers are P&J rear with a Posie's '40 ford buggy spring with a few leaves removed, with P&J ladder bars, front is a Socal Model A with posie front spring.

Do a thread search, C9, Rolf and others have posted some excellent tech with pics,on this, but I chose not to pinch my rails, otherwise, basically you have to trim the Model A rear subrails to clear the kickup on the Deuce frame.

Nice work - it looks great!

  30. Great looking roadster. Dig the Duvall, but you're right about the grille. It's just a touch too high.

I'll keep a close eye on this post as that's pretty much what I want to build (when I grow up :) )
