Looks like a dash panel that would have come out of a car with a bud vase.

I would start with the late 20s, and move up to the mid 30s if needed.

  6. I figured you would start at the beginning. Hehe.

    The stampings/engravings/decorative embellishments, are clearly
    "PINE CONES"
So that is a place to start, in regards to solving this puzzle!
Basic web search says 1929 Hudson, also information says that "pine cones" were a HUDSON trademark for a few years.

Ding Ding, you said it...;)...so many models in those years...

    Quite lovely at that...

Interesting the look once placed behind the steel dash and I wouldn't have noted the lower keyed panel missing thats shared in other pics...

For some reason, Hudson, which owned Essex, decided to go sorta plain in '28, & very ornate in '29, although the cars were essentially the same. Since '29 was a *very* good year(except at the very end), it does make sense they'd doll-up the cars, not to mention sorta hide the past-year-look a little. Dash inserts, door handles, & near everything else that could be art-deco'd was done, was pretty much the most ornate year available. & most independents did the same.
I'd also guess that the Hudson dash insert/gauge is pewter? The '29 Essex is pewter, & has an interesting look to it. The color tone is just a bit different, whether polished or patina'd.

  18. I still can't grasp why a car company would adopt "pine cones" for a trademark.o_O:confused:....:)

I love this place, mystery solved in less than 30 minutes:p As far as the panel goes it does look elegant and would look sharp in an early custom 30’s vehicle.

Maybe it was a subliminal tie in with Christmas (how appropriate!) in that pine cones are from evergreens. Evergreens are symbols of longevity in that they don't shed leaves annually, they stay the same. You buy a Hudson and it lasts forever- like this dash insert has. Just a theory.

Maybe they ate too many pine nuts!

  23. Heres my two, one hexagon with pine cone and other with the small Hudson / Essex hexagon. Small switch is to switch the gas gauge needle over to oil gauge. ( two in one gauge ) The one with black & white gauges tops out at 160 kph,

My guess is the pine tree was the state tree of 9 states including Michigan and that is where Hudson originally started.

  25. A story, My granddad gave me a 1928 Hudson dash that he took the gauges out of. He then put old family pictures in their place. It was, { is pretty cool }. It's packed away right now. But I got this picture from the old inner web. Ron[IMG]

Educate me on this. I'm sure a bunch of folks on here have been to this site.
    identifyinginstrumentpanels
I had it bookmarked and used it frequently to identify dash panels like this plus radios...tail light...lots of items.
Then one day I got this when trying to get there.
    https://sites.google.com › site › identifyinginstrumentpanels › home › temp
temp - Identifying Instrument Panels - Google Sites
I signed in and get this.
We're sorry, we were unable to locate the site /identifyinginstrumentpanels/home/temp.
Anyone still going there that can tell me what I am doing wrong? Tried .com .net .org no joy
