Here is a similar pump, except for a B head. The style of the top plate is very similar. I have the same one on my Four Port- it has a spring loaded face seal and does not use packing.

Pretty sure the name was George Parker… way before my time so only have heard stories. Word on the street is he got the DO Fronty patterns from Joe Gemsa and was delivering castings. Apparently he was working with (or for) Hutchinson Race Engines here in Sac, and the patterns are now held by one of his kids

50 years ago you wild take the cast iron lump and fasten it to a Bridgeport. Today you would somehow write the program for a CNC machine. Either way it would be interesting to watch a speed up video of the process.

George Parker was a foundry engineer who worked for an aerospace foundry in SoCal. At one time he owned what is now Joe Hunt Magnetos in Sacramento. Not sure what the connection with the mag business was. George made all new patterns for the DO Fronty head, chain case, side drive, water pump etc. Castings were produced and he had them for sale at one point in time. I met George at the old Squaw Valley Swap meet that replaced Harrah's swap meet for a few years back in the late '70's ?? and we stayed in touch for several years as he completed the various patterns and castings. His castings were actually much nicer than the original Fronty stuff, a testament to his foundry knowledge. In addition to the DO patterns and parts, he produced a mid-hi compression T flathead and offered that for sale for a few years. At one point he started a project to reproduce the 91 CI Miller engine. I'm not sure how far he got on that project. The patterns for the DO head and parts exist today, and were in the possession of his children at on e point in time but they are not owned by his children any longer. Just sayin.

Thanks for the history Dan! Wonder if there is any connection to the D.O. Fronty Dan Price has produced. There were so many guys back in the 1970's that were into the 4Banger stuff, often wonder where their cars and parts are today. Bob

  11. I spoke to Dan a few months ago, and he was in possession of all the Parker stuff. He was hoping to sell everything as he's getting up in age. No clue if there's been any progress.

Good call! Attached is a photo of that head! IMG_5882.jpeg

George Parkers shop "Experimental Engineering" was located behind Hutchinson Racing engines. He did do magnetos. DSC06648.JPG fullsizeoutput_1506.jpeg fullsizeoutput_1507.jpeg

Working on a new project until the engine is rebuilt for my coupe.
    Traded for this phaeton.
Only needs some fine tuning with the springs, add some shocks and mess with the brakes. it’s fairly solid.
Going to get the distributor reworked to match the head a little better.keeping 6 volt though.
New header and carb too. Two blade fan as well.
Once I get it on jack stands to fix the front spring, I’ll drop the pan to get any sludge out and check shims.
In mockup stage waiting for gaskets.

Looks ready to run to me… run all the oil out the front that is! Good catch! Would have made a mess out of #1 rod bearing in a hurry

How can you fix that, is it just the wrong bearing shell?

  18. I think best to plug the crank and redrill hole in line with bearing
The web would not be wide enough to support a wide enough bearing to use existing hole
Much easier to fix now than later

I am assuming that it is at least a B crank, as if drilling them isn't bad enough, my good golly.

  20. No not a B crank
This is a Donovan model D motor

Drilling C cranks are easy with proper fixture and drills

Well that feels better, and better material in that new crank no doubt. :)

Could someone help me choose spark plugs for this head?
Should be 6.8 +/- compression made by Specialty Ford Parts. I believe 14mm.

  30. Agreed, it is a nice piece.

This one was machined by Jay Steel some time ago, never run.
