im having trouble finding emergency brake cables for a 57/59 ford 9 inch. In the past i used another set of cables that interchanged but since forgot. Any input appreciated.
The end that goes into the brake should be a normal cable like used on most other old cars, with the three spring tabs on the housing, and a cylinder on the end of the cable. When looking for parking brake cables, I get the cables for the car it's going in, not for the rearend...but of course that only works if they have a normal end, and if you can find them. Also it helps to know what you're putting the rear end in.
I've done a few in the last few years and I just used the universal Lokar cables. The only problem I had with them is they're to dam expensive.
They are posted on Ebay. https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_ss...artsrus&_oac=1&_trksid=p4429486.m3561.l161211
Used to be a place called Cables and Controls. They had all kinds. Any Ford with drum brakes would most likely work. Even from 6L cars. I put a 59 Ford rear in my 72 6L Comet and used the 72 cables. https://www.amazon.com/Dorman-C9449...x=67+ford+emergency+brake+cable,aps,90&sr=8-9
On my 39 coupe with a 57 9 inch, I used two left cables from a 86 f150 they fit the hole in the backing plates and I made brackets to connect them to the stock front cable from the e- brake lever. Raybestos Part # 5296-0572240 it is 60.375 inches overall in length. I can take pictures of how I mounted mine if you need them.
This Raybestos part is similar to what I used on my nine inch https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo.php?pk=302265&cc=1128956&pt=1696&jsn=1014 I used something similar to this to tie them together for the Vega park brake handle I used. https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo.php?pk=616177&cc=0&pt=1000888&jsn=1065
