Does anybody have any idea where in Washington this took place? Some spectacular cars. I love that '32 coupe with Alfred E. Neuman on the grill.
{ JIVE-BOMBER } that's a very Cool video! I think I spotted a 68 Road Runner, and Charger at 1312, and 1313 as the Moon eyes van, and rail p*** by them?? Thanks for posting.
Had to revise a bit, I'm thinking that video is from more than one race at a couple of tracks possibly Ellensberg where the narrow strip with all the dry gras is and then at Bremerton Raceway . There also might be a little from SIR around 1962/3. The newest car in the whole thing is the early 60's Mopar that might have been Bob Norwoods before he made an altered wheelbase rig out of it. A pale green.
Garlits @ 6:08, followed by a couple A/MR, the Strode Bros, and Skeans and Pickering, both NHRA Record Holders in the same cl***. Some of best footage, with some famous cars, maybe some footage at Arlington !
@Marty Strode Thanks so much for letting us know. I was trying to figure out what car this was. I really love the looks of it. You may have already answered this somewhere else, but what's the story on this car?
Ya just gotta wonder where all those drag cars are today. What were they're final demise? All those kids are as old as I am: 60's and older. That MOON dragster and push truck. Nice.
That Roadster was built around 1961 By Bob and Jim Strode from Kirkland, Wa. they were 20 and 21 years old. Jim, was working in a welding shop, and the owner let him build the ch***is after hours. He used 4130, and gas welded the 96" WB ch***is together, along with making their own rack and pinion steering box. Jim used pieces of a 50 Olds hood to make the front section of the body. The funny thing was they both drove it, and set the record previously held by the Skeans and Pickering Roadster, from the Slo Poks out of Vancouver, Wa. As I remember, it was 352 Chevy, as was the Skeans car. Tony Nancy took the record at 169MPH, with Buick powered beauty, but Jim ran 174 @ Arlington in the car. I have talked to both of these gentlemen, and they are still very active, Bob recently finished a 57 Corvette, and Jim has a COE, to build. It is a pleasure to call them friends, after reading their names in Hot Rod, when I was 13 !
Cool, thank you @Marty Strode! Kirkland was part of my stomping grounds many years ago. I met a lot of guys from the era of this film hanging out at Honest Performance in Renton, but never knew about this car.
