Decorating the tree this week got me thinking about cool rods and custom tree decorations. I will start off with my 1956 F100…Anybody else got them out for tree or holiday decorations?

My wife is not an elf but is seriously into elf culture. This year the tree in my bar is done all in trucks. Truck tree skirt, wood truck ornaments and even cooler, little pictures she printed of our truck in all stages of construction and put in little frames. She is talented.

My wife kicked me off the main tree (which is now her snowman tree) and started the car tree. This year I went with car show parking theme:
Mopar Group (the best section) includes the AMX since they allow them at the MoPar Nationals. OT superbird section with Petty as the center piece included
    Corvettes
    Motorcycles
California section with hot rods, low riders, woodies, surf wagons, California ornaments etc.
Ford section for wife's Mustang ornaments etc
Cartoon section for the Flintstones, Grinch, Snoopy and CARS movie
Trucks spread out by type, Dodge with Mopars, Fords, Chevy with Vettes etc.
Fuzzy dice as a topper and my kitty ornaments on top.

    Only one on our tree.
In the past, I’ve had trees decorated with a beer can collection that I once had, (including a “star” beer can from Texas at the top), and while living on boats for 25 years, I would always decorate a table top tree with fishing lures… 40F2C329-F2EA-4134-B925-38C63CC4098B.jpeg B9DE79BF-336C-483F-A879-DF455A1DEA6A.jpeg

The first one was front and center on our granddaughter’s Christmas Tree… “The Gathering of The Tribes” event every Christmas holidays since 2005. When she was a daily/weekly guest in our house from 6 months to junior high school, we had the tree going with her and it was known as the “Granddaughter Tree.” We put on the first ornament, and when she was ready, she was able to put on her first name ornament to fit the tree.

    Hello,

Normally, by this time the annual “Gathering of The Tribes” takes place. The old Christmas themed, custom cars roll in with their decorations and have a great time. Last year, the tribe took a vacation, while our house was in its construction/remodeling phase with new floors. Each year since our “Granddaughter Tree” was made, the gathering took place.

So, it will take a formal invitation for all of the new cars to show up again, in front of the mini tree and the Bear family. But, a surprise guest showed up with their own tree and wanted to know when the party gets started. Ha!

The Red Buick Skylark is the only car that has scale wire wheels in the proportion stage. So, they arrived with the idea of a transfer to the black 58 Impala sitting in the garage drawer waiting for the modification. The “Granddaughter Tree” made its presence known with its memories and the “Gathering of The Tribes.” But, after a year off, we will see if they all remember to show up with someone new or some old guys with new mods. We shall see.

Back in 1963, I had the modifications done to the big 1958 Impala to adapt to the Buick Skylark Wire Wheels. When I get the little scale Impala ready, the scale wire wheels will be added for a similar look to the real thing.

And, it too, will remember the long cold winter holiday covered in a foot of snow sitting next to the cabin in Big Bear’s annual real: “Gathering of The Tribes…” Teens from all high schools in Long Beach plus other areas, in Big Bear for the festivities. A real So Cal tradition that had been going on since I was in elementary school. Yikes!

    upload_2023-12-21_2-54-1.png @themoose version…thanks
