You bet your sweet ass we are!!

so after several years of an on again off again relationship with the HAMB I have decided that I’ve got to find a new way to use it as I miss the hell out of this and y’all.

    things have to evolve right?

I am not the same person I was in 2006 when I got on here.

the HAMB is not the same forum it was in 2006 either.

I kinda fell off like a lot of folks did back in 2014 or 15 when the big update happened and of course that’s when IG also kinda took off.

Also my boomer ass made that transition (hamb update) far more complicated than it needed to be (I’m a analog man living in a digital world) ‍♂️

anyways, so after getting on here a lot more often recently and being bummed at the threads of “what music do you listen to when you work on your hotrod” I’ve decided to make a thread to regularly update what the Iron Lords CC outta NC is up to! Cause we still do a lotta cool shit!

So as many of you know we had a communal shop some years ago that was the hub for hotrod goings on in our area, that shop got sold in 2016 and as a by product we weren’t in the public eye so much any more…

I get asked all the time if we are still a club, the answer is HELLS YES WE ARE.
We still get together every Wednesday night like we have since 2008 we just do it at each others shops now.

tonight we got together at Dustin’s @sinticket shop and @hotrodderhaag and the Canuck started fitting floors in Dustin’s bitchin 40 pick up that he picked up from Chris Swenson awhile back. (Build thread to come soon)

mean while Cougar Mike and I got Dustin’s freshly chromed axle taped up and ready for paint (the center not the axle!)

and while all that nonsense is going on
@Silvair and @Hurley50 helped out, talked shit and supervised

we got a fair amount done but most importantly we showed up hung out and spent time with each other.

hotrods are cool and all but with out friends they’re kinda boring.

cars are conduits for the relationships.

hope y’all dig this thread, cause we are gonna be posting a lot

Here’s some of what went on tonight and here’s some of Dustin’s collection of perfectly shitty chrome!

  2. "conduits for the relationships".........Love it! I've always said, yeah, it's about the cars, but it's really about the people. Welcome back to the HAMB. Looks like a truly fun group of guys in the club......Don.

Can you give more details on the axle? Ie it was chromed right? How was the web prepped for paint?

    Thanks.

Thanks @hotdamn for posting this. You are correct, The HAMB was such a pivotal part of this hobby years ago and like you said after several changes on the site we all ventured away. It would be great to bring the community back together on here and rebuild what we all for fortunate enough to experience years ago.
I am going to start a build thread very soon and looking forward to it!..stay tuned!

the entire axle was blasted and then just the outside was polished and chromed. The inside was left raw steel. After we taped up all of the chrome areas It was then etched primed as you see @sinticket so expertly doing in the front yard!

Very cool. I never knew an area could just be plated. I always figured it was all or nothing.

Man I love it. THIS is real hot rodding. I’m lucky to have a great group of cruising buddies, but no one wants to get together to work on stuff. Rock on!

  11. I am a member of the “Kent Island Cruisers” car club, do attend the local shows, but just can’t seem to find the time for the social part of it. Too busy with family and maintaining two boats, the house and property. I have my brother and a couple of friends that are into old cars and hot rods, but due to distance, I only see them a couple of times a year.
Maybe if I developed some local friendships, my present project would be road worthy…
I would love to spend an evening every week hanging out in someone’s shop.

They actually make a product called Chromers Tape that they can put on surfaces. Also if the area is rough and not polished it doesn’t plate well.

Thanks man, they really were! And while that space and that specific time has passed we have to be intentional about keeping that community alive!!

I'm happy to see that '40 pickup ended up in good hands!
Great to see this thread. I'm hoping it will encourage the rest of us to do the same -- more shop nights, more time with friends.

you know man I hear people say this often in regards to our community and I want to share that when @BloodyKnuckles @sinticket and myself started this club in 07 we did so because there wasnt really anyone else for us to hang out with so we had to stick together.

Back then it was mostly Camaros and older street rodder guys in our area and neither seemed really interested in what we were doing.

It felt as if they often saw us as punk kids cause our cars were typically primered works in progress, we looked a little rough around the edges and we placed importance on bias plys over modern wheels, split manifolds over horse power, stance over cornering etc, etc...

they showed up to cruise nights, set up their crying babys, sat in a lawn chair behind their car and then left in time to get home for dinner.

So we showed up and did our best to make it a point to be friendly and engaging.
( I learned a lot about how to do this from @BloodyKnuckles and @JeremyJames )

also I think its important to say that we started the club because we saw one another as brothers and one by one we attracted and collected others that felt the same.

again the cars are just a reason for us to get together and dont get me wrong weve had some important folks in our community come and go but ultimately the group has remained because we see the importance of making our community (each other) a priority.

Ill mention too that effort is attractive even though its frustrating and disheartening at times.

what I mean is that the best way to find a good friend is to be one. not everyone is going to reciprocate but some will, and those are your people.

You had me with the picture of the truck, Old Glory and cowboy hats! But that, sir, is a 41 pickup. Anyway the hood and tailgate are. I too tire of "What motor oil do you listen to in the garage" posts. This was awesome. We need more of it. Please continue.

Best way to add more of the content to the Hamb that you enjoy is to contribute it yourself and comment -not just click like- on the stuff you like.

Billy does a great job at that!

Amen! All my best friends in life are through cars one way or the other. I even met my wife because of a friend that I made while painting his 55 Chevy.

And, thanks for posting this thread! I will be following along! We definitely need more threads about cars being worked on, friends hanging out doing so, and the like. :D
