Well, after a long hiatus from actually working on the roadster, and just enjoying driving it, I've decided to tackle the upholstery. I have about 3 decent pictures of Uncle Ray's roadster that will hopefully at least get me close to the original. Huge undertaking as I'm learning as I go here and doing this all myself.

Great minds think alike and yesterday I took a picture of the roadster on my lunch hour and then received a photo of Uncle Ray's roadster that it's current owner took as well yesterday. After being in storage for decades the original is back on the road.

Thanks for newer pic's of a very cool rod ,enjoy seeing your hotrod work.:D:cool:

    A short 55 Chevy " Way Back Story!;
The first year I had close too any idea what type hotrod I was going to build on scribbled paper!.
Dad took me with him too Chevy Dealer, early 55. He was after a good deal on a new wagon, hoping for them too drop cost on still in stock 55's=The 56 were about to hit the show room ! Dad would take me too the grand shows at all the dealer ships ! To see the new designs opening days, but never got anything, just looking. But this time was before the 56 hit the market. After a few hours,he ended up buying the best looking Station Wagon I'd ever seen! They didn't have what he ask for"The cheepest botton of the line wagon"< he need it as a kind of work truck ,that Mom could also drive!, but they did have still in stock " V8 Nomad". It was awesome looking; he got it for the cost of the 6cly no extras-he ask for.!
That was also the first year I started collecting parts I could find free, off abandoned cars in the woods an left on dead end dirt roads. For my some day hotrod build, took time, but in 1959,I had put together my dream hot rod, enough to drive around the block.
By then Dad had got another new car,but at the end of model year to get the best deal, was his thing!!.;):D:cool:

  13. Any time, I see, or hear about the Anderegg roadster it reminds me of the afternoon I saw it crossing Van Ness Avenue in 1956-57 in San Francisco. The roadster was going to the local D J radio show.

Well the (I'm not even sure what to call this) restoration/rebuild/deep cleaning/finally finish, work has begun. Blew apart and sanded body, grill and hood and repainted. We couldn't match the color I sprayed 8 years ago because the paint was made with leaded toners that aren't available any longer and after 2 hours of trying we came up with this. And it's really grown on me. Not quite the green tint my original color had, but this actually appears closer to the true Buick Condor Yellow of 1954. I love its vintage feel. Next step is pulling the engine and transmission so I can clean those up and also repaint the front frame and firewall. Will be pulling the dash as well to repaint it too. Who knows maybe I can figure out how to fix the gauges too. Onward!! 20240928_181719.jpg

  19. New paint looks terrific!
When I was in grade school, the principal had a 1954 Buick that color.

    Maybe we'll meet at GNRS.

Dash is repainted, reassembled and reinstalled.
    1000008205.jpg

Engine and trans are out, and I filled some holes in the firewall for a heater idea I had that turned out to be useless. Painted firewall and front frame.

Now for the real work. Color sanding, buffing and polishing.

so cool to see this thread back at the top.

Is the color a custom mix, or did you find a factory color to use?

I have a future project that needs a similar yellow.

  24. It does my heart good to see the roadster after al these years. I saw it when I was 16 or 17 years old, and I still remember that day. Now I am 84 years old, and your roadster brings back good memories.

    Thank you!

The color is definitely custom mix. My advice is just head down to a nearby auto paint store and see if they have a "Fleet Color" book and pick the shade you like. That's what I originally did, and probably should have done this time had I known I would end up with what I did.

Thank you so much for the nice sentiment. So that would put you seeing the car around 1957. Did you see it in person, if so, where? Or, did you see it in one of the magazine features?

IF you really want a heater, put some snaps hidden under the dash and stretch a tonneau -like cover you and yer others lap, the body heat from you's, and the fire wall will keep your waist down warm.. tuck in on the sides. dress warm from waist up !!
    umm, good crackers !!:D:)

Just some subtle black single lines, but for someone who's never striped this was quite the ordeal. After I get the hide'm around the bolster nice and straight I will tackle the red and black band stripe.

  28. I saw the roadster on Van Ness Avenue as it was turning to go the local music station, what we would call an Oldies station today.

Plugging away. Body is all color sanded, buffed and polished. Bit more work done on the sign and starting to throw together a 283 with '58 Power Pack heads.

Cold and snowy most of today, so thought I would try to finish the lettering on the show sign. I'm incredibly rusty and not completely happy with the outcome, but oh well.
