upload_2023-12-22_3-43-18.png A Red color for emphasizing the holiday spirit? What more could anyone want than a nice Red, Model A Coupe with some power?

    Hello,

As long as I have been on the HAMB, I have always been inspired by @mad mikey and his Model A Coupe. My brother and I started our drag racing thoughts of a dual purpose Gas Coupe for driving to high school and compete at Lion’s Dragstrip nearby.

We had not thought of a Hemi motor, but with the successes of the 283-301 SBC motors, we wanted to build our first Model A Coupe with that in mind. So, we actually bought a slightly tarnished, stock, black Model A Coupe and towed it home.

It did not run until we fiddled around with the 4 cylinder motor. New gaskets, new water, gas, spark plugs and wiring all contributed to the spark coming to life and now we had a running 4 cylinder Model A coupe. My brother’s idea was: “a running motor is always easier to sell versus one that needs work.” He was right as usual and with the running 4 cylinder motor, we were able to drive it around the block. YES!

    Jnaki

But, with all of our teenage talks and plans for the Model A, we were having fun, me, especially, to be able to drive the coupe around the block and to go get some gas. I did not have a license as yet, but it was only a block or two to the parts store and gas station.

So, with my future pre-teenage dreams, now including a mild custom, 51 Oldsmobile Sedan, and a Model A coupe in our backyard, my future car was one step away from reality…

The drawing of a Model A was not happening, as within a few weeks, my brother sold the 51 Oldsmobile to a friend and another friend bought the running Model A coupe for his first try at a hot rod. So, now what?

We had no teenage car, but my sneaky brother already had his eye on a nice, shiny 1958 black Impala at our local Long Beach Chevrolet dealer.

His explanation was that the new 58 Impala was fast from the start, with no other stuff we had to do to make it go fast on the street and at the drags. (Other than tuning and maintenance. ) Our future was just starting…

  24. I built a model this week for a Christmas present. It's for a friend, and it's of his 37 Ford Cabriolet. I used the same paint as his real steel rod has. Note these photos were taken before paint touch up, and big red bow. lol Merry Christmas. IMG_0472.jpeg IMG_0471.jpeg IMG_0473.jpeg

I am in awe at the talent displayed here. I can only hope one day to have a fraction of the skills you folks display. Thanks everyone and Merry Christmas to you all! IMG_3387.jpeg
