I've got all the parts to make an idler pulley using a 48 Ford generator. How does the armature come off the shaft? Is it a press fit?
I'm wondering if anyone has ever taken the armature off a shaft except to salvage the copper windings. Remembering that years ago when I hauled s**** to one s**** yard there were winos sitting out in the back with stacks of electric motors, generators and starters cutting the windings out of them and putting the copper in buckets. I think the place paid them by the pound and it probably wasn't much per pound but it was money for another jug and something to eat. Since the armature is going to end up being sacrificial I'd just cut down one side of it with a cut off disk.
I’ve got some here that are from years ago. It’s a bracket with a pulley. Bearing inside. Some are V ed for inside the belt. Other is flat for the back side of the belt. I’ll try to find what I have.
Most motor armatures are pressed on, likely the same on generators. If you look at the laminations you might be able to see which direction is was pressed from, and you want to continue in that direction.
