Hi all - just finally unboxed mine to start using it - not sure how the support plate is supposed so sit? It fits very well under the rod but i cant figure out how its supposed to sit on the press once under the rod-

Do I actually NEED this plate? Part # is J24086-905 and im sure this is the correct plate for chevy pistons.

    Thanks!

Put the plate into the tool, then slide the piston on to the plate, the screw down the pin pusher.

Thanks - this is the part im not 100% sure on, heading down to shop ill take a look. The plate can go into the piston correctly, but I cant see how its supposed to carry the load since it cant fit onto the black support, its too wide. I would imagine the plate needs to be able to sit down on the support and transfer the load to the rod..

    Can u draw a pic?

Looking again. Yours isn’t like the one I’ve used. The one I’ve used has a square jaw and a slot for plate to fit. Maybe you don’t need the plate. Sorry not much help to you.

This is the sort I’ve used. The jaw is different to yours IMG_5471.jpeg

makes sense, maybe i have to order the correct plate - gr8 another 240$!

Yes the one that came on mine isnt near as well machined, more of a rough casting.. maybe ill try mill down the inside edge just a tad so the palte can lie flush. its only out by about 20 thou each side maybe...

My casting looks alot rougher too, maybe a rip off / copy :/

Well today did not go well, seems like I have a knock off part from Ebay- there is no way this is KM quality, one edge bent down and chipped before the pin even started going in, then I hand sawed straight thru it, soft as plastic..

Going to be in the market for either a complete press or at the the plate for now -
