I have a 35 ford coupe with a 350 sbc with rack and pinion steering. my problem is the steering has 3 joints in the steering shaft to clear the Bloch hugger headers and doesn't steer smoothly. Question, are there headers I can install to help straighten out the steering shaft allowing elimination of one or two joints

A picture would help a lot. Are the joints over angle or miss clocked ( not lined up ).before I would look at new headers make sure the steering is right.

many different block huggers and stock manifolds to correct the issue

The 36 I did had the unmentionable ifs, 454bbc and 3 joints in the steering. Worked great. Was a terrible squeeze though and had to be installed in a particular order in order to get proper alignment and access to the fasteners. Despite that it was a great car. Shouldn't have sold it.

Shouldn't have much trouble with a smallblock! Pics help. Joint phasing and angles are critical. If I recall correctly mine felt like it had a tight spot which I think I corrected by adjusting the phasing which was easy with splines, not so with DD. What's on the one in question? A sliding joint might be a possible answer.

Make sure the shaft doesn’t protrude into the yoke area causing interference with the u-joint

And that the joints are timed correctly.
Edit, I hadn’t fully read Chris’s post above, phasing is the proper word.

Fenderwell exit headers will cure the problem. IMG_3869.jpeg

Maybe you need an intermediate support on the lower shaft to stabilize it. Hard to do with just two joints. Borgeson sells them
