Perhaps some of our SoCal brethren can confirm or deny, but apparently Marcel and his two sons, Luc and Marc are not in any way shape or form "carguys". They shape metal and that's it. They do it very well, mind you but they simply don't give a rats ass if they are working on a Ford or a Ferrari.

    True?

  2. I was at the set up for the Portland roadster show when the feds seized his rig..cars and all ..I got the history from boyds truck driver

Unfortunately, I am still watching this show. Marcel's Custom Metal is local to me. Marcel's sons Luc and Mark has personally given me a shop tour and I believe these guys are one of the best in the business if not definately top 3. They just do astronomical work in the least amount of time.

I just wish I had the loot to hire these guys to chop my ride but the cashflow these days for the project is really dry. Lots of Riddler cars have come from the work of these guys who tough low-key still manages about a dozen articles about them every year as well as dozen of awards from cars they have built and or modified.

Some pretty high-falootin' HAMB'rs started at Boyd's. Jimmy White for example. :) I believe Blu Bear was working at Circle City Hot Rods too.

Chip Foose was there too, obviously. And I've heard that Boyd's son is into "our" stuff as well.

So the place isn't all bad. Heck, even my dog was there one day when they were closed. :D Some of you know Chopper...

did anyone catch Boyd's new wife hinting she wanted one of those Bugatti million dollar cars? With everyone else doing all the work in his cars, does he even profit from the cars he dreams up? What is the ballpark price of a boyd built hotrod? I would say upwards of $90k and up. It seems he builds cars without limits, too bad its mostly aftermarket parts because of the deadlines they have.

They also showed Thomas's 33 coupe, that thing is sweet, I sure as hell would not let Boyd do a burnout on that if it was mine.

Uh, come on, if I could have afforded to buy a pristeen example of my car to start with, and not have to deal with rust issues to repair, I woulda chopped up a pristine stocker in a heartbeat! If the onwer of the car wants to chop it up, its his car, and as I watched it, my dad complained about seeing Marcel's chop it, and I was thrilled to see the work. I wish the whole episode was the chop work at Marcel's.

  8. Hell yeah even the famous Jesse James worked there before he ended up under Ron Simms wing doing bikes,& opening the west coast chopper shop

Is this the same 36 three window that was in the cover of Rod and Custom a few months back? I believe painted in pagan gold.

There is a whole tech series on this chop.

Jay Leno always says he's the president of the "More money than brains" club, but i think he's wrong. it has to be Boyd; to waste a perfect coupe like that is a sin, especially when he can buy a nice body alone and use that. It even pissed me off when he beat the car in the parking lot till it was knocking. Damn if you don't want the old drivetrain GIVE it to someone who would use it. They took a very nice '36 and tore it apart and are only gonna use the shell and fenders, not the hood, not the grille, not the floors, not the firewall, just the shell and fenders. I bet the finished car won't look as nice as it would have with a change of wheels and tires and a lowering of the original car.

OK Cool thanks for clearing that up. I do believe they have a tech series either in rod n custom or someother mag where the 36 in question was chopped by Marcel and his sons.

  16. Has anybody seen Scott on overhallin? And the best part of the show was seeing thomas car. I heard boyd say the 36 was going to be a mix of traditional and modern, call me stupid but I have never heard of such a thing

  17. I used to enjoy the show on Friday nights, I could wwatch it and wind down somewhat while getting excited about working on my hot rods. When they moved it to whatever night, I just quit watching, it was too much drama and not enough car building. In Boyd's defense, he is running a business and the sole purpose of a for profit business is that one work PROFIT. If people can't meet deadlines, either the deadline needs to be extended or the people need to give a full eight hours per day. It appeared way back when that his crews were screwing off quite a bit rather than busting ass during the work day.

Trophy Wife??? Surely you jest. I've seen her up close. I'd have to put a bag over my own head...
I wouldn't piss on that fat self-righteous pompous arrogant prick if he was on fire.
That bastard ripped me off on a $1900.00 set of rims a few years ago. And would not make good on it after it was proven that his idiots screwed up, not me. The jerkoff should go back to Disneyland; he sure runs a Mickey Mouse operation now.

  19. This is contrary to what he is attempting to do with his business. Maybe he needs to kick his people in the rear and get them motivated. It is customers like you who get burned that will put someone out of business. It isn't the happy customers who don't say anything, it is those who can say he burned me and wouldn't do anything to make good on it. You can do things right 1000 times, screw up once and it will haunt you forever. I hope something good eventually happened to you out of this deal.

    I say true.
I called them before I had an E wheel and asked if they would roll a roof panel for my buddies 29 sedan, I talked to one of the sons, man did they give off some attitude! They would not make the panel since they weren't installing it, and if they weren't doing the whole car, they were concerned about being connected to a project they were not comepletely doing? Big talent, yes, Big ego, oh yeah! I bought a Ron Covell ewheel kit and made the panel myself.

The show hasn't been the same since Roy passed. Roy was the only true sheetmetal craftsman that they had. They might get alot more done if Duane did more work and less running his mouth!...lol

Boyd did have some sort of bankrupcy. Before I knew better:rolleyes: about ten years ago, I found out that Boyd's wheels was going public in the stock market. I thought it would be cool to own stock in a hot rod co. So, I dropped $2000 of my hard earned greenbacks(I was about 23 years old) into stock. It looked Real good for awhile. $2500,$2700, Man I hit gold!! It was something like $14 a share and I bought it for like $8-$9. Then it happened. In one week:eek: it went to $3!!!! I sold it all, lost $1600 of my investment. Then the stock got pulled off the market. SO, The way I see it, That fat fuckin' Hawiian shirt wearin' loudmouth piece of shit owe's me $1600 one way or another plus interest!! I'll get it back someday, someway, somehow....... I just don't want it back in wheels or labor!!!:D And Boyd, if you are reading this I will take a check or paypal. I guess that's what I get for investing in a hot rod co.!!!

That's what you should have done in the first place. Unless anyone here's actually dealt with Marcel, Marc, or Luc, you don't have a real good basis for judgement. Look at it this way, these fellow Frenchies can build a Deusenberg from nothing. Do you think they wanna mess with small jobs? And as for not being car guys, well, that's pretty speculative, but the bottom line is, they're old country metal men before anything else, and that's all that really matters.

Id bet a case of beer that the firewall shit was staged for tv. Come on they knew what they wanted but you gotta make the show interesting! As far as marcells doing the chop .. If the owner had the cash then why not. It sure looked nice and was done right. And as far as Boyd's trophy wife? Id rather sleep with my dog........:D:D:D It will prolly have 20's made by boyds ex? wheel shop with wide whites for that new old look:confused: Id have divorced his first wife also.. God I couldnt be out in publik with her:D:D.. Ugly and a bad attitude.............

That's a good looking dog! Have a brindle female (Lucy) looks like the same breed. Lucy's off the street and is an amazing dog. She's been with us for five years and we still do not know what kind of dog she is.
