So I have a 1960 Ford Falcon still with its stock 144 in it. I have purchased a 200 cid engine from a guy upgrading his Mustang power train. And I have a donor with a 144 in it as well. It’s my understanding from research that the 144, 170, and 200 all had interchangeable heads. My question is this. Could I pull the head/intake off the donor car 144. Work with a local machine shop about milling off the intake and fabricating brackets for a bolt on intake, throw it in the 200 with a two barrel and drop that in my Falcon to Pep it up. thanks all
We replaced the 170 in my son's 66 Falcon with a 250 back about 25 years ago and he was wrapped in the extra go from the swap plus the all-syncro 3 speed box made it a much better city driving car so why not look at something like this to make the car more user friendly with less work involved, providing you can find the parts.
Putting a 250 in a '60 Falcon is a bigger deal than a lot of people think that it is. In fact, putting a 289 in it is easier. Second, the 144 head is going to have tiny valves, negating part of the reason for a 200 swap in the first place.
First off you need to verify that your 200 has the same bell housing. There were a few different bellhousing bolt patterns over the years. The later 200 heads do flow a bit better. I built a 200 block up with a custom cam, flat top pistons and a late 200 head and it runs really well in my 4x4 52 f1 pickup
i had an early econoline with a trashed 170. installed a 250 and tried 170 and 200 heads on it. 170, forget it. 200 worked fine, but i had to run premium. so, yes, they all interchange.
