Since I'm never going to own the above car, (I was a couple million short at auction time) I am thinking of putting a Merc dash in my next project '53 Buick and copying the interior as close as possible.

To others, I'm driving a kustom '53 Buick. To me and my passengers, we are cruising in the Hirohata Merc.

I guess this is kinda the reasoning behind why they sell sexy britches for ladies. Passers by don't see 'em but they make her feel, ... different.

  24. If that was my car, (and I'd be very happy if it was) I'd just replicate the glove box door, if you haven't already. I'm sure it's still out there someplace, but finding it would be a miracle. If you didn't want to duplicate Von Dutch's work, just change it up a little.

  27. I think that is a grand idea. No secret my merc is transforming into a tweaked Hirohata semi-clone. The interior will be pretty much right on. The dash is done and I've taken a crack at the headliner. It's in, but it's wrinkly and way off, but I learned a lot for a the next run at it. LOL

Great kustom minds think alike @drdave. And then one of them actually does something with the thought. Love what you did/and are doing with your Dork Merc ... a great read if you click on his link.

I picked up a '50 Merc dash off of Craigslist for cheap. Couldn't flip it at the swap meet so it will likely go in the Buick. I will likely tweak the glove box striping, changing it from "The City" to "The Country". Probably will have some cattle, a windmill and a covered wagon incorporated in there somewhere.
