Well thanks to my good son and grandson and many days/nights/hours of time we are progressing towards getting our 27 T Touring closer to being on the road. The headers are built as is the under-the-splash apron street exhaust. Our attention is now on widening the rear fenders to cover the wide Hoosiers we have and then the next steps will involve building the running boards and then of course the wiring. Pics are below. We would appreciate help on the following: Can anyone recommend a person in the Austin TX area with an English wheel who might put a small crown into our fender insert? Your suggestions as to header coatings: Ceracote vs Jet Hot or ??? Thanks for all of your help and advice! For the metal work you could try checking with Austin Speed Shop or Martin Bros. Customs. I’m sure there are others too.
Jet Hot is aerospace coating designed for heat. https://www.jet-hot.com/ take a look at the video a bit down the page. Ceracote also has the V series for exhaust https://www.cerakote.com/shop I haven't dealt with this exact series of product, but did use others for firearm related coating. It worked fairly well, but not perfectly for the use. So this is not straight applicable to your question, but I'd go with Jet Hot if I could swing the cost. The big thing is to feel out the locations near you doing the job, if you aren't doing the ceracote DIY. Are they able to meet your needs and warrant the work?
On the fender crown issue, I'm thinking you could do it yourself quite easily (he said!) with a pneumatic planishing hammer. $150 or so from HF. Suggest a few test pieces first, but it's great fun, and you'd have the tool to keep. Wear ear defenders! Chris
Sure thing Treb11. The mounts are stock Pontiac sitting on home-made frame mounts (welded) as shown in the pics. The driver's side mount had to be somewhat modified to generate steering clearance.
If Martin Bros. etc. are too expensive or don't have time for a small job; in addition to Happydaze suggestion to a planishing hammer, look into an economy English Wheel or even a local used one if you find one listed. There's a benchtop model on ebay for less than $120 shipped. Or cut a poster board template of the shape you need and head to your local Pick A Part with your cordless saw in hand. You should be able to easily find a cheap hood or roof skin with an appropriate contour.
Love seeing the poncho power, especially with the good heads but that exhaust set up is going to kill the horsepower that motor will be capable of. ....
