  1. I know a few women that I'm sure have dust in their pantyhose, but no mothballs!

When we lived in a mobile home park there were skunks around and I always feared them taking up residence under the trailer. A game warden told us to throw mothballs down under there and it would keep them away. Based on this advice when I used to store my 63 Nova in a rented building along with our boat and a off topic Z-28. I would put a hand full of moth balls in several old tube socks and place them strategically inside the cars and trunk and under the hood. Never had a problem. The fellow who rented the other bay on the other side of the wall from me would always complain about the pack rats and squirrels attacking his Trans am. He didn't use mothballs. Based on my experience they work if you can get past the lingering odor.

  5. they won't hurt a thing. They may stain something. Maybe wrap them in cheese cloth.

I have been known to put rodent poison under the seats too.

My dog breeder, who has several hundred pounds of dry dog food in her garage, swears by Peppermint "OIL" in a pump spray bottle.

I've used dryer sheets over the winter for years and never had a problem. I'm sure mothballs would work but I couldn't put up with the smell.

I don't know, it's one thing to kill these paper thin moths - but mice, now mice are a much more difficult challenge and may take something with a little more kick like maybe....... plutonium :D

In case you need any more agreement I use mothballs and have never had an issue, and that's with the car stored outside. I've used dryer sheets inside a shop before, nothing got chewed but the mouse shit proved that they were still wandering around on things.
The peanut butter flavored poison blocks don't do a damn thing, the little bastards will just drag the whole block off and still multiply like rabbits.

I use a product called Tom Cat available at Tractor Supply. I use the sticks that are about the size of a stick of butter. I break these into 3 or 4 pieces and place them under benches or racks all around the garage where pets cannot get at them. If you keep the rodents out of the garage they won't be in the cars or anything else, they may find tasty. I very seldom if ever find any trace of rodents in the garage other than chew marks on the bait. I believe after ingesting the bait they go looking for water so no disposal. Tom Cat also comes in pellets, but I find they sometimes move the pellets around where pets may find them.
I have a remote camp that I have used the same product for forty years with no problem.

I got an ultrasonic rodent repeller for under the hood on my daily, and it works. Rats love warm engine bays and the soy-based wire insulation used by a lot of modern manufacturers. Got so tired of having my coil wires chewed up. No problems since; worked so well my brother has started recommending them to customers at his shop. Available cheap on Amazon.

Squirrel's totally destroyed the wiring harness in my wifes Caddillac in a couple days. Brought a shirt with em & built a nest & everything.
This was a car she drove weekly, not in storage but in our driveway in the city. I popped the hood and scared him off.
Couple days later he got my nieghbors harness too... Ive got Cats now.
I also buy that peppermint essential oil and spray that shit all over the garage & around the tires of my cars too.

Tom Cat is what I tried inside a shop once. It just attracted more mice. The only things that would actually kill them were the puddles of oil on the floor and my drunk buddy's pellet gun. Maybe we have mutants over here...

Yeah, high plains desert. You have those range rats and Orchard mice. Little bastards seem to be everywhere.
