Damn...I think a parts store in New Hartford told me that all the Fleet Prides except for Danbury stopped doing them. Good to know.

SUCCESS! Finally. Well...it's KIND OF FUNNY...

This part showed up today from an AMC Supplier (Blaser's - in Illinois) and was guaranteed to fit. I had my reservations but a guarantee is a guarantee. I lined it up and it wouldn't slide on...again. Nothing new. I twisted it and rocked it and nothing... I thought to myself "This feels JUST like that one that Brian sent me from California that he took off that Falcon." I grabbed that one again and it felt the same...just a smidge too small, still...

I felt like I was back at the beginning of the road. Do I call Gear Vendors?...Do I try to have the guy that rebuilt this get a flanged output shaft?...etc. Now, I also recall having a feeling at one point that "It feels like if I just SMACK it with a hammer..." So, out of sheer desperation, I grabbed my rubber mallet and started tapping...and it started sliding on. And I tapped a little harder and it went further...but it was SO TIGHT that I couldn't pull it out... Not much of a slip yoke and it would still require a slip joint in the drive shaft if it's THIS tight. I had to use the mallet to tap it back off. Then I grabbed the new one, and had to tap that on with the mallet...and it was also just as stuck in there.

I grabbed some ****** oil and ran it around the splines and it made little difference at first. Seems like there was just enough oxidation (NOT AT ALL VISIBLE) from sitting on a shelf for who knows how long, that it wouldn't slide. I hit the splines with a wire brush all around it, and dumped some oil into the yoke and...to make a long story slightly less long...with enough mallet taps and sliding the second yoke I tried (and possibly even the first) works great...as does the new one that showed up today.

So...for posterity's sake...the part number that that Brian used on that Falcon trans which he sent me the old, tired yoke from is ACP Brand, part number FM-EY004; '64-'67 Falcon 6 cylinder, 25 spline, 1.375" seal surface diameter; 1.109" spline diameter.
I am sure other brands have a cross reference.
Expensive (time, money, gasoline) lesson learned.

A congratulations is in order on this one. You hung in there until you got the job done.

As frustrating as this has been, I'm betting it is something you will not forget.

Now you have one of those "One time, this happened to me... " stories.

And everyone on this thread has one of those, "One time, this idiot on the HAMB...." stories!

Actually, I don't feel so bad because other people - professionals- tried and came up just as empty as I did. That speed shop owner dusted off at least 12 old crusty yokes - a few of which were probably the same as what ended up working...same thing with one of the drive shaft places...nobody every suggested wire brush and lube.

    Thanks again.

Well the newest update is that a few buddies spent a weekend getting the trans swapped in...
We needed to swap bearing retainers (they seemed swappable). The bearing retainer on the AMC/Lay**** trans was too large.
The AMC trans only had the wide mounting bellhousing holes, but the old 3.03 had both...so I made a template out of that plastic "wood" that I had lying around and we bolted the template to the wide holes and drilled the new narrow pattern into the AMC trans.
One of the toughest parts was figuring out the rear trans mount because of the ladder bars and everything coming together in one spot. We have something that's ugly but it works.

Finally got it out today for a proper shake down and it seems to be good. The OD pops right in when I flip the toggle and I'm getting 75 MPH out of 3000 RPMs. Mathematically, this OD is a 0.8:1.

    Anyway- thanks to all.
