I put my 53 customline up on the hoist over the holiday and found some bad ch***is rot! I have decided to replace the ch***is with another one. Was wondering if anyone has a lead on a parts car for sale. Just started my search and will be searching the internet and thought I would try here also. Any help would be appreciated.

Based on the first picture, it also looks like your car has had new patch panels tack welded in the rockers and body struts.

You can give this guy a call. Hopefully he still has a few sincehe liquidated a lot for space. Also if you have FB, theres a few 52-54 ford groups with people parting out cars.

Yes you are correct some previous owner used whst looks like galvanized metal to make repairs. At some point in the future they will need to be replaced

Thanks for the reminder, I’ve used Owen’s salvage on small part purchases in the past. Very good experience. Might have to bite the bullet on shipping on full frame

Wow! Thanks they do have a few. I suspect I will have to check into shipping unless I get lucky and find one closer!

I also had a good experience dealing with him on some parts for my project.

Thank you all for the tips on place to get parts! There is nothing in my neck of the woods.

Maybe you could send those pictures to one of these suppliers and see if you could purchase the sections and have a certified welder weld them in.

Not a bad suggestion but from what I see I think I would be chasing the welded seam almost up to the engine compartment from the rust separating the seam. I believe for me a frame swap is I am leaning toward. The more I dig the more rocker and lower rust rot I am finding. Not a happy feeling. May have to find a better body and use this car as a parts car! Too many things to think about. I’ll continue to search for a frame. I have gotten back 1 call so far on a frame in Texas for 1250 but they do not ship.

Will a ‘54 ch***is fit under the ‘53? If so it would be a nice front suspension upgrade, it’s the first year for the use of ball joints that except spindles with disc brakes.

Im not sure but I thought there might be a difference in the front sheet metal attachments But I’m far from sure on that. One of the first things negative about the 54 I’ve read about on here is the front crossmember sever rust. Still keeping my options open

Thanks everyone for your suggestions and insight. A buddy of mine who is in my car club came over to look at my frame. He is a retired body and frame guy and he thinks we can fix my problem. So I am choosing the repair fix as of now. Thanks again Exrodder1

In this episode you can see how he used a Ford Ranger front suspension in a 1947 Ford, 1946-56 Fords all share the same front track width. https://www.imdb.com/***le/tt21817972/ This was first shown on MAVTV.
