1962 custom Nova Nomad Station Wagon

Hello,

After careful consideration and memories of cruising around in a 62 Chevy Nova sedan with the underpowered 6 cylinder motor, I have decided to upgrade that choice and make it into the final small station wagon for a couple of old folks. As well as fitting inside a small two car garage with plenty of space for a couple of “creaky” old folks to gently get into the seats with ease. Two big cars was the thing, in the old days. These times call for small, sleek hot rod/cruisers or daily drivers to be at the ready for the old folks on their road trips to anywhere… yippee!

Taking the original 4 door station wagon and making it a two door Nomad styling wagon leaves no “blind spots.” The clear vision comes from the no blockage from the extra doors and support poles. If it was made, this way, we would have bought one back then. But, then no one wanted a small station wagon that could not get extra kids in the back, hence 4 doors in the stock Nova Station Wagon.

As far as a motor, well, a SBC 283 with dual quads and accessories are just fine. No need for anything above 300 hp. Plenty of power to get up into the higher elevations of the local mountains during the winter season and no worries about the steep coastal highways all along the Pacific Ocean Western Coastline. Also, creature comforts including A/C are mandatory. From all of the different cars we have owned and driven, it would fit right into our small two car garage and allow the old guy to get into the comfy, fully adjustable, Recaro Bucket Seats.

Note:

For those times when a larger open top area is necessary for transporting large trees or bushes/custom pots for planting becomes a thing. Or, furniture for a granddaughter’s dorm/ apartment is the next thing down the line, an open bed El Camino is a great choice. So, a custom 62 Chevy Nova El Camino model is made from the floor plan of the Nova Nomad Station Wagon. (above) Just like the real 65 El Camino and 65 station wagons. YRMV

“Retread Tire”

 

As a kid my favorite car at the old jalopy races was the S-3 coupe.

My buddy Lloyd @Lloyd's paint & glass has some OT wheels on his new project, so I thought I'd "fix" that.

It also highlights my lack of computer graphic skills.

 

This is what Hot Rodding is about! I wish that I could give you both more than just a like button!!! I met you John at the Showdown, and you're a very cool, and nice guy. Mark it's obvious that you are too, and also VERY talented. Thank You, and everyone else for sharing. The FAS is a Fun thread!And JACK?????lol

 

This is a project I just finished for a local customer. He is building an old-style chopper with a tank/jockey shifter and a 3-prong trident rising up behind the seat. The bike is still unfinished so I don't know much about the theme of the paint but he wants a 'Prickly Pear Cactus' set of knobs....... the big one on the tank shifter and the other 3 on the riser.
I took the job just for the experience and for the heck of it, because I'd never done much with resin casting except simple repairs. I learned a lot and developed many of my own techniques to get the details good enough for my picky ass to live with.
I've got a lot of time and do-overs in them so be warned, the quote to create these was high but I should have set the bar a lot higher. My customer kept telling me that he would accept my low-quality rejects but I was learning from my mistakes and figured that I knew what to do better "the next time".

Edit: My customer just picked up the cactus knobs a moment ago. The paint is going to be a bright, candy, metallic green. (I don't know how to spell chartreuse. ) No fancy fades, boarders, or 'snakeskin'. So the knobs will be the main embellishments and character of the bike.

 

Thanks @Ron Funkhouser I agree, the hot rod community, for the most part, is full of the kind of folk that would give you the shirt off their back ir travel miles and miles to help a stranger stranded in the middle of nowher ( like near where I live, ha ha!)

Also, thank you Ron, because you reminded me that I never shared a rendering I did for a fellow HAMB member, Jessica, for her husband this Christmas... She has reached out to several artists for their rendition of George's grandfather's Jersey based, Ford, dirt track, jalopy!

Yeah thanks everyone. Jack your computer graphic skills are great! I couldn't have done that. But I thought Boyd's wheels were awful! Lloyd wheels??? { EEK } You guys have a real natural born talent. Not so with me, so thanks for letting me play here too.

 

...love the old dirt track era...that's where I got infatuated with old tin.

Very CooL { RUSTY1 } Sam, I love your art, and especially those old stock cars. I took these old toy Dick Tracy cars, and made a couple jalopies.
