There stuff is top shelf. They rebuilt some Rochesters for me and did a great job.

  3. He is a real jerk on the phone -you guys think Charlie Price's wife is tough - try this guy out.

His prices are also astronmical. I was trying to see if I could getone of his 3 x 2 tunnel rams - he refused to seel just the intake. I asked him why, he just said he wouldn't because only he could set it up. I told him I thought I could handle bolting the carbs on and hooking up the linkage. I still don't understand that one. He only wanted to sell you the whole package for 2200 bucks or somethin like that.

I would agree his stuff is nice and probably works goods. He is just real high and more suited to the street rod crowd that want pure bolt on stuff and like to really pay lots for what they buy.

  10. That's Jere Jobe, there is absolutely NOBODY who can outdo Jere when it comes to Strombergs, the man is a miracle worker, if you've got Rochesters then Larry Fulton @ Automotion is your best bet, yes he can be a little short on the phone, and yes, his prices are kind of steep, BUT if you want flawless work, painless carbs that require zero tuning then you should give him a chance. He'll earn your respect once you bolt the carbs on and they run like they should.

  11. Here is just what I know - I am cheap and want to learn to do these myself. This fall there were 3 different guys that had set ups from him. All were pretty high USED! But they all acted pissy about the setups when I asked questions. Maybe his attitude follows the parts

Luke is right on the money. I had Larry do my Rochesters and Jobe did the Strombergs on my flathead. Both guys really know their stuff.

When I was setting my 3-deuces up on my sedan I called Larry and picked his brain a little about my setup. He was a little reluctant to give me any info at first. (After all he makes his living doing this) After a few minutes he loosened up a little and really helped me out on my setup. He is a stand up kind of guy as far as I'm concerned. He may be a little pricey but his combinations look good and perform the way they should. Just my 2 cents.

HMMmm... Sumthin funny going on HERE? I don't think he would ask to rebuild your carbs , IF You only wanted to purchase some parts?? Hell man, there's a whole 'Parts & Pieces' List with prices on the AUTOMOTION website ( www.HotRodCarbs.com ), if thats IN FACT what you wanted to do.

My thought is there's a whole lotta of BS out here stink'n up the place.

    "Merry Christmas" to you all.

Hey OldDawg, you seem to be making a lot of assumptions. Most people don't spew a bunch of shit for no reason. I talked with the guy at Automotion about building a 3x2 setup with Strombergs instead of Rochesters and he treated me like I was an idiot. According to him, there's no such thing as a Stromberg that doesn't leak. I beg to differ. And I'm sure a lot of others around here would too.

Why would you call a Rochester shop ( automotion rochester carburetor service ) if you were interested in using Strombergs?

Again a "Merry Christmas" to all!

I got the number from someone who apparently wasn't aware that he only does Rochesters. He could have told me that in a polite manner, and that would have been fine. But that's not how it went.

  20. I'll say it again, if you are using Rochester carbs, and you want them to work when you bolt them on, Larry is the only guy I'd recommend, if you want to use Strombergs, call Jere Jobe, I put one of Larry's setups on one of my old cars, worked bitchin out of the box, ran it for about 2 years before I sold the car, I emailed the current owner, he still has the setup on the car, never any problems, this is 3 years later, you decide. Oh yeah, about Larry being short, if every third idiot in the world called you with questions rather than an order, I'd imagine you'd get a bit short too.

I did do - And I did it for a lot less money. I just explained how I was treated on the phone. He is driving his own bus old dog.

I bought the 3 deuce SBC set up from him several years ago. He was awsome. Helped me decide the best way to go before the sale and gave some great support after the sale. I was going to do it myself, and get the carb bases and flat butterflies from him, but after talking to him I decided to get the whole set up and it worked great. I can't remember exactally, but I wanna say it was $1500 bucks for everything.

Luke, YOu hit the nail on the head. These guys make their living setting up carb systems, not running a library on how to do it yourself. If you had a welding shop and every other person wanted you to tell them how to weld how much money do you think you'd make. When you call someone either be willing to take their advice, place an order, or at the minimum DON'T badmouth them if all you want is something for nothing. Notice how all of the responces that actually bought from these guys are satisfied and the bitcher/whinners all had a negative comment. 'nuff said.

  28. Just so we are clear - I shared my experience with the guy because he was a rude SOB on the phone - not because I wanted something for nothing. I tried to spend money with the guy. I was also polite as I could be when- I usually am especially polite when I know the person I am talking with has something I want to purchase. Being smart, rude, or trying to enflame a guy might drive the price up. :D

Maybe the hot rod carb guy was in a bad mood I don't know - he blew his shot with me. It also sounds like some others have had similar experiences with him. Some have had good experiences.

I think its BS to call everyone a bitcher or whinner just because they spoke of their experience with the guy.

I thought the Warden made a statment about a failure to communicate - not Cool Hand Luke himself. :)

Man, you are full of shit. Just because someone mentions they had a bad experience or were not treated well on the phone doesn't make them a bitcher/whinner. Sounds to me like the guy does good work, but really needs to improve his people skills.

  30. good info....looking for a set up for a buddies y-block...
