The wife says the next time she sees me on an auction site she's taking the mouse away. Thru a bid in on this last Wednesday with no expectations of winning the bid. The sale was Saturday and went to grandson's hockey game instead. Got home, checked my e mails and holy shit YOU WON it said. I've always felt Henry nailed with the 40 so here we go.
Left Wed morning and hit tail end of first storm just into Iowa. Roads were actually pretty decent, but the traffic had a pretty rough Tuesday night. We got down to Graham TX Thursday morning and went to U-Haul and picked up the trailer. Got squared away at U-Haul and went to the auction site. They had the 40 already sitting outside so I just backed the trailer up to it. Looked it over and said OK and pushed it on. While I tied it down Lucy got squared away with Cory on the paperwork and we were ready to go
Left Graham and got back to Lakeville Friday mid-morning. I'll get the salt cleaned off and post more pix later. I want to see if I can get it running decent and figure out just what direction I want to go with it. Thoughts?

Looks great! Seems like there's been a few other accidental buys around here lately. Always liked 40 convertibles.

Kinda looks like the 40 has been on the right direction for a while, like maybe eighty years or so.

Nice car, glad the photos of the trip had nothing to do with the safe trip home. Bob

I’ve always loved the 40’s and to me the convertible is the ultimate one to own, so well done on your accident!!! :):)

  9. When you say you “accidentally “ bought a convertible was it actually supposed to be on purpose or was it really an accident?

Looks really nice, I'm assuming it was a bargain if you bought it "accidentally" based on a low, early bid. Gotta be rare that a good one of these sells cheap. Does it have a Columbia rear in it, based on that sticker? I don't know what the details on the sale were but this looks like it was a fantastic score.

Hmmm, you lost the use of the mouse but but gained a 40 rag. It was worth it! Wonder why you pushed it onto the trailer ? Looks like a runner to me. Great score.

I was on an online auction to buy a trackhoe and they had about 60 of them. One starting every 5 minutes and they would overlap, some not selling before the next one game up to bid. Lost several bids and finally got one.
Upon checkout, I looked at the "items bought box" and found out that I bought two of them.

Dan, don’t feel too bad about your “ accidental “ buy. ;) I did the same thing in 2011 and bought a 49 Chevy coupe. Got it running good , rebuilt the brakes and had fun with it for about a year before I sold it.You have what appears to be a nice original 40, take your time and decide what direction you’re going with it,ask and you’ll get plenty of help/opinions here. :DGood luck!

Nice convert! And you are lucky you didn’t wait a day to go get it cause you wouldn’t have made it through Iowa on Friday afternoon or any of Saturday.

  27. Very cool Dan! Wish the weather wasn’t so crappy so I could have seen it (and you :D) on your way through. Glad you made it back home safe with it! Congrats!!!

Oh, and I know all about accidentally buying stuff.
