40+ years ago I saw an article in some rod magazine showing Pete building s deuce ch***is in his garage with minimal fixtures, I thought I can do that and I started doing deuce ch***is not just for myself but for customers. He's been one of my inspiration's for all these years. A true icon in the hot rod world. Thanks Pete.

    Great interview, my takeaways:
The man loves his Krusteaz ****ermilk pancake mix !
He seems as genuine and sincere as they come having never met him.
Finally this hobby does a great job of keeping the mind and body young at heart.
Thanks for the awesome job on this, much appreciated.

Love to see a quality interview like this one with Eric Vaughn, another special person from the same time.

lol p-wood being an unknown hot rod hero is such a bizarre thing to say that I’m not even sure what I could compare it to.

Like Joe Dirt at the fireworks stand but a hot rod shop

“You mean to tell me, you’re gonna stand there owning a hot rod garage and tell me you don’t know no p-wood?!?”

    absurd lol

So I'm curious as to the reason(s) why he doesn't like cowl steering. I there a thread on this?

  14. Great episode. Could have watched an hour more of Pete talking about the different builds he has been involved with.

    COWL STEERING . . . JUST STOP !

As someone who has built as many cars and ch***is as Pete-E you'd think people would listen but... 24pgs says otherwise.

Ok, You are the second person to mention he isn't on the HAMB any more, what happened? I've enjoyed following his builds and reading the knowledge he is sharing from a lifetime in the hobby. Bob

    Bob -

There are probably lots of factors why P-Wood has stopped posting on the HAMB … but I’m sure he was becoming increasingly frustrated when he took the time to answer folks technical questions . . . or share some of his vast ch***is building/fabrication knowledge . . . only to be disrespected by HAMBers that seemingly just wanted to “argue on the internet”.

NOTE: Pete’s last POST was on September 14, 2023 . . . and he stopped “lurking” on the HAMB on November 11, 2023.

I believe it's incorrect to say Pete "doesn't like cowl steering".
His point was always, "engineer it correctly".

the only way it works is with a 4 bar setup, It is all spelled out on the Pete and Jakes catalog. Pete kept asking people with wishbone fronts and cowl steering to jump up and down on their spreader bars and video the steering wheel (bump steer) but nobody ever did it

I saved this quote from Pwood.
There are a lot of cars with bump steer, being driven plenty of miles, that doesn't make it good, ( or safe ).
Pictures have been posted & descriptions detailed, none of it correct.
I would guess some of the cars with bad geometry are masking the bump steer with stiff suspension.
There is the possibility that some owners don't know what bump steer is, and ***ume what their car does is normal.
If you are not sure, go to the front of your car, if it has frame horns, stand on them & jump up & down.
While you are doing that watch your steering wheel, if it's rocking back & forth you have some bump steer. If it is rocking wildly back & forth you probably have cowl steering & split wishbones / hairpins.

In the video I wish Pete would have talked about the discussions he and Tom Prufer had when Pete was building the ch***is for the cop shop coupe. It would be entertaining IMO . Bill

He has so much experience and general history knowledge of the car hobby it is sad that one feature drove him away.

I have had the pleasure of talking with him on a few occasions. Always pleasant, upbeat and knowledgeable. Add to that, his eye and talent for building... and he's one of the top hot rodders of all time.

Yes it is sad that this has happened, Pete is a national treasure to us Hot Rodders and we all should respect the knowledge that he was willing to share with us. Unfortunately the H.A.M.B. is no different than other internet forums in the fact that there are many "keyboard commandos" on here who feel the need to comment regardless of wether it is fact or not, some on here will argue just for the sake of arguing. In my opinion it is an embarressment to us all!

It is truly unfortunate that people who are knowledgeable and experienced have ceased to share their insight here due to people who just want to argue and really don’t know what they are talking about.
