Just curious if any HAMBERs have used Rustoleum Fabric paint. It claims to leave the fabric soft which would be incredible. I have an OT truck that could used some freshening up without seat cover replacement costs... Th paint is recommended for outdoor patio furniture and apparently works best on polyester; less coats required.

I used some last summer on a tailgate protector which was a heavy nylon type fabric. It worked remarkably well, it did stay soft. I was pretty sceptical.

I dont know for a fact that it was fabric paint, but the previous owner sprayed the red fabric of my Plymouth's upholstery with black paint. It is faded and corse to the touch, even after I used a upholstery shampooer on it. I hate it.

So I would recommend testing it someplace disposable. Have you wife judge the sample.

Heck just grab one of your wife’s favorite shirts or pants and try it out, she will give you an honest review :D

I’ve tried all the vinyl paints with poor results.
They had either worn quickly or stayed tacky.
Painting in fabric was more successful.
The bad thing about painting fabric it makes the material scratchy hard.

My brother used Dupli-color Vinyl & Fabric spray paint to turn his 1961 Falcon 2dr bench seats and door panels from original blue to red. His seats weren't in bad shape, but they were faded and sun burnt. It looked amazing when fresh, and even after a year of almost daily driving and the Texas heat, it has held up pretty decent. The vinyl wasn't stiff or any easier to scratch than the original, and the cloth was as soft as original. The coverage was quite amazing to be honest, going from that dull faded blue to the bright deep red. After a year, the seat bottoms really need a another coat, but everything else has held up great.

Also, we were on a rod run last spring, and I was worried the red paint would end up all over my back and ass after riding around all day, but there wasn't any red stains on my shirt, just a sweaty back.

Well that Falcon is encouraging. What I’m considering doing has a lot more nap to it than the fabric inserts of the Falcon however...
