Here's one I picked up today. I think it's a February 16th 1970 model ? M22 ? Is there anyway to tell what kind of car it came out of ?
What ***embly plant is A? What cars did they make there? (edit: looks like Atlanta, where they made Chevelles) It's from a Chevy car, the 1 at the start of the partial VIN tells us that. take the side cover off, look at the gears...
Pull the side cover off and post pic's of what's there. Count the teeth on the input shaft and post pic's of the tooth angle's and we can tell you EXACTLY what you have. After this long, the number's mean absoutely NOTHING.
That 397766 WO is a turbo 400 output style M22 used in Chevelles or El Caminos. Probably either a SS 454 or L78..
Serial number 10A******= 1970 Chevrolet division, Atlanta P0B16C= P-Muncie, 0= 1970, B16= Feb 16, C= M22 Tag ID 3978766WO= M22 26 spline input, 32 spline output, no ring groove on input shaft. 661 main case would be correct for the Muncie production date. Real early production cars had a 660 case. If it hasn't been apart before and mix mashed, you may have a M22. Most Muncie's I get in my shop, no longer have the ID tag still on them, as they have been apart before. Just for reference, Tag ID 3968011WL, 3968012WL= M21 close ratio, 1 ring groove on input shaft Tag ID 3952659WB= M20 wide ratio, 2 rings on input shaft Both M20 and M21 have 10 spline input, 27 spline output Bill
