I like this style of Lake pipe with the end cap. What year were these ran? Were they commercially available or home made.? Where can I get a pair?

Timeline wise late 50's early 60's from what I remember seeing what few of them I saw in magazines. I don't remember seeing any adds for them though.
They have a great look that I always liked.

  3. Looks like the tube is tapering down to where it ties into the exhaust, could it be a cut down torque tube and then just a cool cap was made?

yup, made from a torque tube and capped with the lid from a canister oil filter ( like from a flathead ford)

I have used a section of driveshaft also. Like from a open drive line car. Makes a flathead sound like a y-block!

This side pipe is fabbed from a 35-36 driveshaft not a torque tube. That particular shaft was tapered on both ends. You would carefully remove the weld on each end and remove the shafts then cut it in half. Very common way back when you would drive your hotrod to the race track. Use the caps in town to prevent tickets and uncap at the track.
I have them on my grey coupe. I fabbed the caps.

Better pic grabbed from HAMB. Shows both driveshaft and torque tube.

Those are '35 & '36 driveshafts, I have at least one if you need it, we'll be heading up to a machineshop in Cicero in a few weeks (we're waiting on rods and other stuff for a freshen up, when they show up we'll head that way), shoot me a PM if you want it.

Curious what is the wall thickness of the driveshaft tube?

  13. Commonly used on flatties as headers, same wall thickness as exhaust tube, making lightweight pipes 3449EFC4-B378-4E36-A2F3-9DD62CB9A694.jpeg
