My wife told me she would choose my "last" ride A high school classmate's son was in his 30's when he succumbed to cancer He had a very nice 70 Dodge Challenger that he'd spent a lot of time on and it hauled his ashes to the cemetery. He had some real challenges with the Challenger (in my shop) and he requested that his friends send some of his ashes through the carburetor. After the funeral they drove the car up near to the burial plot, popped the hood and ran some ashes through the car. That was almost 20 years ago and the car is still in the family. For what it is worth, the 38 Chevy in my Avatar was my first hot rod and most likely will be the last, I've had it for 50 years, the rest of the cars are just cars.
A lot of people would tell you that I’m so full of S#*+ that my last ride will probably be through a manure spreader!
A very good friend built a nice 57 Chevy pickup several years ago. Unfortunately, he developed ALS and only lasted a couple of years. His older brother, also my good friend, hauled his casket to their family plot in the back of the pickup he built per his wishes. This was in March, and their family cemetery is on their mountain property, up a slick ungraveled road. He did make it, but it was touch and go for awhile. And the pickup needed a real good bath afterwards. But Terry got the final ride he wanted.
LOL I currently own my last car. There are half a dozen cars I would still build given the chance but I am a realist. My 40 chebby is my last car. Just a beater. Its fine leave the cool chit for the young guys. I also own my last bike. Its kind of old but I am happy with it. Jim ( @squirrel ) you still get at least 3 cars left.
Yes definitely a hearse for me but not just any hearse. It will be a ‘59 Cadillac Superior bodied funeral coach just like this one.
I used to say I wanted a flamed casket, but now I am afraid St. Peter might get the wrong idea and send me some place warmer.
I'll finish my roadster and then hopefully my '33 pickup. That will be the end of building them for me. I hope to get to enjoy them for a while. I always envisioned having the finished roadster in the garage at the end, even if I couldn't do anything but keep it shiny and look at it. It's on course to look like this: I'm hoping that this will be the daily driver until I don't drive anymore....
I'm 81+ and had some great cars. I think I'm on my last of 18 station wagons { all used as tow cars, never owned a pick-up. Still have my last trailer too,I built in 60s for my race cars, all been used wagons w trailer hitch,{ Now OT is 2005 Dodge Magnum /hope it last}. I kept my Sr High School hotrod/ Bobtailed 28A Roadster* ,had n built a lot of racecars n a few rods n customs. Enjoy talking about all those, too much may be! Yet; One car I always wanted ,but mised out on,is owning a Gold, 63 Studebaker Supercharged Avanti.
I'd like all the time in the world and all the money I need to buy whatever dream parts I want to build a 33 Ford Coupe. Along with the time learn the rest of the skills to do it all myself. That would be my last ride....no small task
