    1948 B/G 671 Anglia Sedan Delivery

    Hello,

We were in the era prior to the inclusion of the smaller, lighter shorter Anglia Ford sedans and the variants. For that matter, no one had one competing, until late 1963 into early 1964. But that era was becoming the 33-36 Willys coupes era to make up for the lighter, narrower, shorter cars with the same horsepower or more as the technology improved from the early 60s to 1964-65.

Despite the power and quickness of some 40-41 Willys Coupes like SWC and Maz, the 33 Willys style coupes were on the way. So were the smaller Anglias.

    upload_2024-1-19_5-22-35.png 1964 Lion’s Dragstrip pits…
at the “All Gas Coupe and Sedan, first of its kind, drag race meet.

But, by 1964 the time period of the shorter narrower Anglias came on the scene in a wide variety of race cars. John Loper once had a 40-41 Willys Coupe that was fast and a class winner in B/Gas. Then the Anglia era brought his build to take advantage of the rules and again, he dominated the B/Gas, C/Gas class.

By the same time in 1964-65, he started in A/Gas setting records in a powerful Anglia.

So, while heading off to college, my mind went back to the Gas Coupe Days and I tried drawing a chopped 40 Ford Sedan Delivery race car for the A/Gas class races. It was one of my first drag racing art works.

Even though I drove a Flathead powered 1940 Ford Sedan Delivery for 1000s of reliable, no repair miles, the need for more power was always a factor. So, this one had a big 1965 year model Chevy 396 motor for extra oomph!

All of these years later, the A/Gas Anglia Panel Truck takes over the competitor’s last runs, prior to the destruction of all Gas Coupe Classes and competition as we knew of it in the early days. The memories lead to random art work that clouds up the space in the current brain… YRMV

GMC TRUCK CROP SMALL FILE.jpg 1947 FORD TRUCK 11X14 FULL 2.jpg A number of years back a car friend asked me to do a picture of his 49 GMC pickup. The lighting was great with a lot of reflections. Jump ahead 5 years and he now has a 47 Ford. He thought that it would be cool to park it in the same spot and do a drawing of it, so I did. The first pic is of the 49 Jimmy for reference. The second is the Ford. Both done on white Stonehenge paper with Prismacolor pencils. The size is about 14 x 16 inches.
